Welcome nature enthusiasts! Nature Nexus Institute offers fun outdoor activities for families and individuals - all are welcome! Join us on monthly nature hikes, habitat restoration events, library workshops, art & science activities all centered around exploring nature in LA. Locations include the Baldwin Hills Scenic Overlook, Ballona Wetlands, Kenneth Hahn Recreation Area, Dockweiler Beach and more. We seek to provide equitable and intergenerational entry points to cultivating healthy community-nature relationships.

Join us at Baldwin Hills Scenic Overlook for a family-friendly morning of guided nature sketching. Our focus will be on using natural materials found at the park. Draw and paint with black walnut ink using stick, leaves, and pebbles to make sketches unique to you and the parklands. Connect with nature through the combination of close observation and drawing. All drawing abilities welcome. Art supplies provided, but participants are welcome to bring their favorite supplies as well. This stroll will be led by nature-nerd artists!

Join us for the rise of the Cold Moon at the Baldwin Hills Scenic Overlook!
We’ll be doing some hands-on activities, a sunset stroll, and s'mores around the campfire. Family friendly!

Join us for a habitat restoration event! It’s a great opportunity to learn about native plants and local wildlife, all while spending some time outdoors in beautiful Baldwin Hills Parklands. This event is in partnership with California State Parks Foundation.
Spaces are limited, so if you are interested in participating, please RSVP to the coordinator at least 24hours in advance of the event: amendiaperez@naturenexusinstitute.org
Important things to know about this event:- Volunteers under 18 years of age must be accompanied by a parent/guardian. Habitat restoration tasks are best suited for people who are 12 years of age or older.
- Please wear long pants and covered shoes.
- Please bring plenty of drinking water for yourself as well as ample sun protection.
- Work sites are frequently off trail and may be on uneven terrain.
- We typically meet up at the top parking lot adjacent to the visitor center to start the event, but we work in several sites throughout the park. If you arrive late you may have trouble finding us. Please be sure to RSVP via the email above so we know to expect you!
