What we’re about
Living in Munich without having experienced the classical music scene is like living in Paris and never have experienced the cafe culture or in Galway, Ireland and never having experienced traditional music in a pub firsthand: you're missing out on a rich part of the city's history and a unique part of the local culture. Germany has 130 professional orchestras, more orchestras than any other country in Europe.
So come discover a unique side of Munich! If you're interested in classical music, are a new adult learner of an instrument, experienced amateur, or professional musician, why not find like-minded people and make new friends?
Ideas for events include: attend events in these venues, hear from professional musicians, attend classical festivals in the region, and organise social events like recitals and dinner/drinks afterwards, cross-events with other active Meetup groups to read Escher, Goedel, Bach or explore the jazz and classical world of author Haruki Murakami.
Despite its relatively small size, Munich itself is home to three orchestras of international renown (Bayrischer Rundfunk Symphonie Orchester, Muenchner Philharmonic, Bayrischer Staatsorchester), major professional orchestras such as the Muenchener Symphoniker and Bach Chor, and dozens of amateur orchestras. It is also home to storied venues, like the Cuvillies Theatre which hosted the premier of Mozart's opera Idomeneo and illustrious visits by Napoleon, or houses of composers like Richard Wagner and his wife Cosima, Richard Strauss, and many more.
Looking forward to meeting you all for the 2023 season!
