What we’re about
🎶 About SAWGO Choir (Sing Along with Golden Oldies) 🎶
We’re a committed group of volunteers united by one mission: to bring joy, connection, and music to the elderly in our local South East London communities.
Founded in 2017 by Tarnya Hassan, SAWGO was born from a deeply personal experience - witnessing the isolation and sadness of the elderly in the care homes, where her own ageing father had received respite care. Inspired to make a difference, Tarnya gathered a group of singers who believed in the healing power of music.
Since then, our choir has been lighting up care homes and community events with heartwarming performances across Anerley, Penge, Beckenham, Norwood, Sydenham, and Crystal Palace. We’ve also proudly partnered with The Rotary Club in Sanderstead and Melvin Halls, Penge, sharing the stage and spirit of togetherness.
We sing not for applause, but for the smiles, the memories, and the magical moments that music can awaken in the hearts of our beloved Golden Oldies.
🌟 Flexible Commitment
We come together to perform around 4 times a year, with 1 to 4 rehearsals ahead of each event (depending on whether we’re singing at care homes or a larger venue).
We know your time is valuable - so we only ask for your involvement when a performance is scheduled. No weekly rehearsals, no ongoing pressure - just a chance to be part of something meaningful, when it fits into your life.
✨ Whether you’re a seasoned singer or just love to sing - you can help make a difference. Join our friendly, passionate community choir and help us spread joy where it’s needed most.
