About us
MAKE Roanoke is a non-profit makerspace in Roanoke, VA. MAKE Roanoke is entirely led and run by volunteers. We are located at 128 Albemarle Ave SE, B, Roanoke VA 24013. We don't have standard open hours, but instead give our membership key fobs to access the space whenever suits them.
Mission Statement
MAKE Roanoke exists to promote knowledge, skill, and creativity in science, technology, crafts, and the arts. We strive to foster these values in an inclusive and safe environment. To these ends, MAKE Roanoke shall provide the following:
- An inclusive and collegial social framework for members to inspire and collaborate with others of similar interests;
- A maintained communal space providing safe access to tools and supplies for projects; and
- Events to promote education and collaboration between members and the greater Roanoke community.

Maker Minis: Intro to Metrology
MAKE Roanoke, 128 Albemarle Ave SE, Roanoke, VA, USMAKE Roanoke is pleased to announce another class in our series of FREE short classes we're calling Maker Minis! This one is an Intro to Metrology class.
This class, taught by Chris Santacroce, will teach you the fundamentals of precise measurements. This class is recommended for people ages 12 and up. Attendees under 18 must be accompanied by an adult.
In this hands-on mini class you will learn:
- Terminology of Accurate and Precise Measurement
- Usage of Scales, Tapes, and Calipers
- Conversion between different Units of Measurement
Please note that MAKE Roanoke is an active workshop:
- All participants must have a signed waiver on file. If the participant is a minor, the waiver must be signed by a parent or court-appointed legal guardian. Waivers can be filled out ahead of time here.
- Children who are not participating in the event are not permitted in the space.
- Closed toed shoes are required in the space at all times by everyone, regardless of age or participation in an event. No sandals, crocs, or bare feet.
- You may be asked to remove or tuck in dangling jewelry, lanyards, etc for safety.
- Depending on the activity, other dress code rules may apply.

General Orientations & Space Tours for New & Prospective Members
MAKE Roanoke, 128 Albemarle Ave SE, Roanoke, VA, USCome learn about MAKE Roanoke by taking a tour of Roanoke's own non-profit makerspace and staying for the General Orientation! General Orientations are required for membership. The tours start promptly at 11 am.
Memberships cost $50/mo and get you 24/7 access to the space via a keyfob for all the equipment that you're trained on. Find out more about MAKE Roanoke Membership here
The Orientations will consist of a tour showcasing what MAKE Roanoke has to offer, a video explaining our rules and procedures, a briefer tour highlighting safety equipment, and then time for Q&A and signing up for memberships.
Please note that additional shop-level orientations and tool-level training are required to use most tools.
You do not have to sign up for a membership, if you want to just take the tour and/or orientation to learn more, that's very welcome!

Space Improvement Day
MAKE Roanoke, 128 Albemarle Ave SE, Roanoke, VA, USMAKE Roanoke hosts Space Improvement Days on the last Saturday of every month!
Come volunteer your time to improve our community makerspace. Space Improvement Days are for any and all projects to improve our space from cleaning, to painting walls, to repairing plumbing, to sewing window dressings. No personal projects may be worked on at the shop on Space Improvement Days.
Volunteers must have a signed waiver on file, and anyone under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult, and their waiver must be signed by a parent or legal guardian.
Our priority list will be posted on our Discord before the event.

Make a Cutting Board: A 2-Day Class
MAKE Roanoke, 128 Albemarle Ave SE, Roanoke, VA, USJoin us at MAKE Roanoke to craft your own cutting board while learning how to use several tools in our wood shop! This class spans two days, and students must attend both days.
RESCHEDULED DAYS:- Day 1: Saturday January 31 from 2-5 PM
- Day 2: Sunday February 1 from 1-4 PM
This class, taught by Matt Brown and Michelle Donohoe, will teach students how to utilize the jointer, planer, table saw, miter saw, router, and drum sander to make their own one of a kind cutting board.
This class is recommended for ages 16 and up. Attendees under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult. Space is limited, so sign up now! This class is open to the public, you do not need to be a MAKE Roanoke Member to attend.
All taxes and fees are included in the class price. Cost to attend is $65, and cost for MAKE Roanoke Members is $55. MAKE Roanoke Members can also bring one guest at the discounted member rate (all attendees must be registered here on the Meetup event).
