About us
MAKE Roanoke is a non-profit makerspace in Roanoke, VA. MAKE Roanoke is entirely led and run by volunteers. We are located at 128 Albemarle Ave SE, B, Roanoke VA 24013. We don't have standard open hours, but instead give our membership key fobs to access the space whenever suits them.
Mission Statement
MAKE Roanoke exists to promote knowledge, skill, and creativity in science, technology, crafts, and the arts. We strive to foster these values in an inclusive and safe environment. To these ends, MAKE Roanoke shall provide the following:
- An inclusive and collegial social framework for members to inspire and collaborate with others of similar interests;
- A maintained communal space providing safe access to tools and supplies for projects; and
- Events to promote education and collaboration between members and the greater Roanoke community.

General Orientations & Space Tours for New & Prospective Members
MAKE Roanoke, 128 Albemarle Ave SE, Roanoke, VA, USCome learn about MAKE Roanoke by taking a tour of Roanoke's own non-profit makerspace and staying for the General Orientation! General Orientations are required for membership. The tours start promptly at 8pm.
Memberships cost $50/mo and get you 24/7 access to the space via a keyfob for all the equipment that you're trained on. Find out more about MAKE Roanoke Membership here
The Orientations will consist of a tour showcasing what MAKE Roanoke has to offer, a video explaining our rules and procedures, a briefer tour highlighting safety equipment, and then time for Q&A and signing up for memberships.
Please note that additional shop-level orientations and tool-level training are required to use most tools.
You do not have to sign up for a membership, if you want to just take the tour and/or orientation to learn more, that's very welcome!
Please note that MAKE Roanoke is an active workshop:
- Children who are not participating in the event are not permitted in the space.
- Closed toed shoes are required in the space at all times by everyone, regardless of age or participation in an event. No sandals, crocs, or bare feet.
- You may be asked to remove or tuck in dangling jewelry, lanyards, etc for safety.
- Depending on the activity, other dress code rules may apply.

Maker Mini: Taps and Dies
MAKE Roanoke, 128 Albemarle Ave SE, Roanoke, VA, USJoin us at MAKE Roanoke for another FREE Maker Mini to learn about Taps and Dies!
Taps and Dies are tools used to cut threads for nuts and bolts (or similar hardware). In this lecture-style Maker Mini, students will learn about:
- Types of Taps and their Applications
- Tap and Clearance Drill Sizing
- Types of Dies
- General Threading Concepts
This class is suitable for beginners, and is recommended for ages 8 and up.

- All participants must have a signed waiver on file. If the participant is a minor, the waiver must be signed by a parent or court-appointed legal guardian. Waivers can be filled out ahead of time at https://mkroa.org/waiver

Intro to 3D Design: Fusion 360
MAKE Roanoke, 128 Albemarle Ave SE, Roanoke, VA, USIn this introductory 3D modeling class, students will learn essential concepts and techniques to create their own digital models. Through hands-on practice, they’ll model a LEGO Technic brick and discover fundamental tools like sketching, extrusion, and reading technical drawings to create precise designs. By the end of the session, students will be equipped with foundational skills to start bringing their design ideas to life in 3D.
This class will be taught Nick Dunne, Ettelie Lovern and Max Bareiss. It will be taught at MAKE Roanoke at 128 Albemarle Ave SE Unit B.
Attendees MUST bring a Laptop with Fusion 360 Installed and logged into their Autodesk account. To install Fusion 360, please create a free hobbyist account beforehand, as it will require a login. https://www.autodesk.com/products/fusion-360/personal Click "Get autodesk fusion for personal use" and create and account to be able to download. Please download the installation locally and installed before coming to class.
If you are having issues with the installation process, please reach out to us with enough advance notice before class starts, either through email (info@makeroanoke.org), discord, or meetup. Please note that there will not be enough time during the class to troubleshoot installation issues.
This class is open to the public, you do not need to be a MAKE Roanoke Member to attend. This class is recommended for ages 16 and up, and is suitable for beginners. Attendees under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult.
