About us
MAKE Roanoke is a non-profit makerspace in Roanoke, VA. MAKE Roanoke is entirely led and run by volunteers. We are located at 128 Albemarle Ave SE, B, Roanoke VA 24013. We don't have standard open hours, but instead give our membership key fobs to access the space whenever suits them.
Mission Statement
MAKE Roanoke exists to promote knowledge, skill, and creativity in science, technology, crafts, and the arts. We strive to foster these values in an inclusive and safe environment. To these ends, MAKE Roanoke shall provide the following:
- An inclusive and collegial social framework for members to inspire and collaborate with others of similar interests;
- A maintained communal space providing safe access to tools and supplies for projects; and
- Events to promote education and collaboration between members and the greater Roanoke community.

MAKE Roanoke Virtual Community Meeting

The evening starts with a slideshow sharing the latest updates about Roanoke's own non-profit community makerspace, including upcoming events, new tools, and member announcements. After the updates, we open the floor for "Maker Show and Tell" where anyone can showcase their creative projects--whether it's a 3D Print, a woodworking piece, electronics project, embroidery, or any other creative endeavor.
It's a great way to connect with your fellow Roanoke makers, get inspired, collaborate, and share your passion for making!
These meetings are free and open to the public, you do not need to be a MAKE Roanoke Member to attend! All are welcome, and feel free to lurk!

Maker Mini: Designing Projects to Account for Wood Movement
MAKE Roanoke, 128 Albemarle Ave SE, Roanoke, VA, USJoin us at MAKE Roanoke for another FREE Maker Mini!
This lecture will focus on how wood naturally moves and how to account for this movement when designing wooden projects. We'll focus on material choice, glueing methods, and different ways of attaching tabletops.
This Maker Mini is recommended for those age 12 and up, and it is suitable for beginner to intermediate woodworkers.
Please note that MAKE Roanoke is an active workshop:
- All participants must have a signed waiver on file. If the participant is a minor, the waiver must be signed by a parent or court-appointed legal guardian. Waivers can be filled out ahead of time at https://mkroa.org/waiver
- Children who are not participating in the event are not permitted in the space.
- Closed toed shoes are required in the space at all times by everyone, regardless of age or participation in an event. No sandals, crocs, or bare feet.
- You may be asked to remove or tuck in dangling jewelry, lanyards, etc for safety.
- Depending on the activity, other dress code rules may apply.

PLEASE READ ENTIRE DESCRIPTION FOR PPE REQUIREMENTS
Come learn the basics of TIG Welding at MAKE Roanoke! Students will learn about:
- Safety and Terminology
- Basic Posture and Technique
- TIG Technique Demonstration and Practice
And they will practice Butt or Lap joints on practice plates, or both time permitting.
This class is for ages 18 and up, and is suitable for people with no to minimal experience.PPE Requirements (Supplied by the student)
- Closed Toe Boots
- Long Sleeve Jackets (FR, Denim, Leather, or Cotton) NO POLYESTER OR SYNTHETIC FIBERS
- Full Length Pants
- Safety Glasses
- Leather working gloves or gauntlets
