Talk Title: Running routes: How to optimise procrastination
Abstract: Running is one of the most accessible forms of exercise. There is no wonder why it is part of so many New Year resolutions. Take it from me - it was part of mine!
In this talk, I will present a tool I built to generate interesting running routes tailored to your location and target distance while prioritising privacy.
We will:
- Highlight fantastic open source software in the Python ecosystem
- Explore methods of extracting and manipulating geospatial data
- Outline mathematical optimisation problems and methods of solving them
- Challenges when re-implementing software in another language
- Highlight the many challenges and lessons along the way
