What we’re about

Welcome to the Long Beach beach volleyball meetup group.  We welcome both returning beach volleyball players and new members!

This meetup is intended for volleyball players with at least intermediate skills.   We play mostly 4x4 and occasionally some doubles.   This is a FREE meetup group.  This meetup is intended to be a REVIVAL of the previous LB beach volleyball meetup group.  To view our rules and the format of CHALLENGE PLAY:  go to More, then go to Pages.

RULES:

1- Skill level required for this Group is at least INTERMEDIATE LEVEL.

2- If you are a beginner, we encourage you to practice on the sidelines with other players, then show your skills to one of the group leaders before getting into a game.

3- To be a part of a team, you must list your name on the clipboard (challenge-list), and wait your turn to be called. Please write your name CLEARLY. We are not RESPONSIBLE to find you if your name is not readable. Also, your name will be skipped if you are not around when your name is called.

4- Players are forbidden to list their name twice on challenge-list; and player must delete his/her name from the list if he/she has to leave before the game starts, or if he/she joins a new team. Also, it is forbidden to list a name in the challenge list by anyone if that person is already playing with a team.

5- If the next challenge team is missing a player or two, please give them a reasonable time to recruit members from the losing team. If they are unable to make a team in a reasonable amount of time, ask them to wait for the next game until their team is complete. However, any team in the list can NEVER skip a waiting team in front of them.

6- The losing team always leaves the court and gets back to the challenge list on the clipboard.

7- After 3 wins, the winning team must leave the court and re-enter the challenge list along with the losing team (meaning if it’s the opposite team’s third win, then both teams leave the court and two new teams come on the court).

8- If one person leaves from a winning team, they should recruit a new player. However, this does not qualify as a new team, they can only play the remaining games up to the maximum three games. To constitute a new team (under the “3 wins” rule), a winning team must lose two or three players.

9- If you are by yourself and don’t have a team on the clipboard, put your name on an empty row and wait for others to join you. Also, look for “holes” on the sign-up list, some teams in the challenge line might be missing their third or fourth player. Ask them if you can join them.

10- Challenge rules apply to all players at all levels, including doubles. No Exceptions.

11- If you do not prefer playing with a specific person or persons, list your name in an empty row at the end, and wait for your turn; or form a team and put all four names on the last empty row on the clipboard.

12- Under certain conditions (usually if a challenge team is not ready yet), winning team in one court may challenge other winning team in other court; although this practice should be discouraged to repeat often, especially if a challenging team is already waiting in the court.

13- Although we are liberal with our rules, compliance with regular Beach Volleyball rules should be followed as close as possible; such as:

a. Absolutely NO OPEN HAND, unless player is setting,
b. No touching the net at all during a play,
c. No open hand false setting (SET OVER) to opposite court,
d. Setters must never screen the view of other players during a service, and servers must make sure he/she can see all players on the opposite side,
e. Servers must make sure all players are ready, and must call the score out loud,
f. Setters must not jump to take a service ball,
g. See official AVP rules for more regulations.

14- To buy new balls or boundary lines, group leaders may occasionally collect donations, members are encouraged to donate.

15- Team members should avoid lengthy discussions during the play, respect all players, and if there is strong disagreement, should consult with one of the organizers as a tie-breaker. Any member who is involved in disrespectful arguments and destructive actions to interrupt the game will be asked to LEAVE IMMEDIATELY; and may be BANNED from the group for minimum FOUR weeks.
