Kayaking the Tejo river (beginner-friendly) + Castelo de Almourol

Join the Lisbon Kayak Crew for our first adventure of 2025! Whether you're an experienced kayaker or a beginner looking to try something new, this event is perfect for outdoor enthusiasts of all levels.

Take a relaxing river ride down the Tejo departing from the river beach at Constância. We will first paddle along the lush Zêzere river to reach the iconic Tejo, passing under bridges and taking advantage of unique waterside views of the castle of Almoroul.

We will make a stop at the castle for a quick tour before continuing along the river. This final section headed to our stopping point at Vila Nova da Barquínha is especially idyllic, and we will likely see several species of birds and animals. We will then be shuttled back to the starting point by the kayak rental company and have lunch together in Constância.

Duration: approx. 5 hours in total

• 3 hours on the water (including breaks)
• 2 hours for lunch as a group at a local Portuguese restaurant in Constância

Price: €20 per person. This includes:

• kayak rental including life jacket and paddle
• certified monitors to ensure the safety of all participants
• castle entrance fee

This event will take place from 10 pre-paid participants.

What to bring:

• Swimsuit and/or neoprene and/or clothes that can get wet
• Shoes/sandals that can get wet
• Sunscreen and hat
• Change of clothes, second pair of shoes, and a towel
• Waterproof case for your phone to take pictures along the way

There are public restrooms at the river beach where you can change before/after the descent.

Level: Suitable for beginners
Basic instructions will be given by the guides before we begin.
The kayak rental company covers personal accident and civil liability insurance at no extra cost; fill out this form if you would like to take advantage of this. Safety is taken very seriously and there will be certified monitors guiding us along the descent.

How to get there:

• By car(pool): Arrive by 09:30 to the river beach in Constância
• By public transport: Take the train from Oriente station at 08:09 to arrive in Entroncamento at 08:57. From there, I have arranged for the kayak company to transfer the group to the starting point

After you have pre-paid, you will be invited to the WhatsApp community to better organize carpooling as well as share pictures and other event-related information.

** If you are traveling by train, make sure to let me know so that I can give the correct head count for the transfer.
