I'm excited to announce that we'll be hosting beginner Mahjong lessons at Cafe Lily, taught by Laura Downs and Whitney Brown, who are fantastic instructors Laura and Whitney were the ones who got me started! Limited to 13 Students.
They are offering a special deal for our Decatur Mahjong beginners:
* $50 for 4 - 2-hour lessons. (typically its $110 for a single 2-hours lesson )

** $15 for the 2025 card (which Laura and Whitney have ordered in bulk)

***These discounted lessons are for Members only, and guests of members if slots are available 2 days prior to the session. Take to the Organizers with questions or requests for guests.

These lessons will take your Mahjong skills to the next level, with an interesting curriculum covering everything from learning the tiles and the basics of correct protocol for playing by the rules, to tips on the best hands for beginners and reading the card, as well as strategies. Laura and Whitney will also supervise play and be available to answer your questions as they arise.

Lessons will be held on Wednesdays from ​530P to 6P social/cocktails, 6 to 8 pm ​lessons on April 23, April 30, May 7, and May 14th at Cafe Lily. You can have dinner at 5pm in the restaurant or we can have small plates and appetizers, wine beer, cocktails and non-alcoholic drinks, great desserts in our private room. Cafe Lily has given us the room for free requesting everyone spend at least $20.

Our Downtown Decatur Mahjong Social Club would like to Honor Nurses and Teachers- For National Nurses and Teachers Day.

Whether you're a Beginner or just curious about this classic game of MahJong, all skill levels are welcome. Connect with members of the Nurse and Teacher Community here in Downtown Decatur while enjoying a game that blends strategy, skill, and a bit of luck. MahJong is a great way to socialize, relax, and challenge your mind.

Our Mahjong Social Club will be teaching you FREE, the basics of the game, while meeting new friends, having some laughs and enjoying your adventure into a new game-American Mahjong!
The topics will briefly cover everything from learning the tiles and the basics of correct protocol for playing by the rules, to tips on the best hands for beginners and reading the card, as well as strategies.

No equipment, tiles, or cards needed, we will supply everything you will need. And guide you where to get what's needed to play in the future. Bring a friend and learn together

5:00 PM- Socialize/Cocktails - let's order snacks and meet your new Mahjong Friends/Students. Check out the Mahjong Tiles, Mats, Beginner Books, etc. (if you get bit by the bug, we have some available for purchase.)
6:00 pm We start introduction of us and the participants, then talking a few minutes about the game. We will then immediately start learning the tiles and playing some tile games and matching games to make learning FUN! (4 people to a table although three works also).
7:00 PM. We will pass out the Mahjong cards and do an intro about several aspects of the card and actually walk thru some hands from the card that would make a Mahjong!
745ish we will wrap up and send you home with some videos to watch and invite you to join us for play and more learning.
