Mam Tor & The Great Ridge - Peak District

Details
10 miles & 600m of accumulated ascent
This is a classic Peak District walk, heading up 'Shivering Mountain' as it's referred to.
We’ll meet in the Mam Nick car park which is just below the trig point & head up the steps to the top of Mam Tor. It’s a short & sharp ascent to the top so we will take it slowly.
After admiring the views of Edale, Hope Valley & Kinder, we will head along the great ridge, an undulating route that takes in Hollins Cross, Back Tor & Lose Hill (see the pics taken earlier this year).
After Lose Hill we will drop down into Hope & then along to Castleton. Here we will make our way up Cave Dale, also known as ‘the secret valley’ as we walk beneath the ruins of Peveril Castle & start the gradual climb back up to the car park.
Meeting Point - Mam Nick car park (no toilets here)
Car parking - £6 for the day (PaybyPhone App) or free if you are a National Trust member
What to bring - warm layers, waterproofs, packed lunch and plenty of water to drink. If it's windy on the ridge, you will be grateful of hat / gloves / fleece.
