Many investors start with single-family houses when they're beginning their investing journeys. Is moving into multifamily a natural progression over time? We've invited four KREIA investors to give us their take on investing in single-family houses vs. multifamily:

Mark Lechner: Mark is a longtime KREIA member and a Past President -- and one of our organization's biggest success stories. He and his business partner, Chris Dischinger, started out with modest single-family houses, then they leveraged their way to becoming one of the largest builders of apartment communities in the nation. Their business, LDG Development, builds affordable housing communities here in Louisville and across the country. How in the world do you pilot that rocket ride up?

Karen McKnight: Karen started investing a few years ago -- and began with multifamily right out of the gate! She acquired a couple of quadplexes and then began a serious pursuit of real estate investing education. She is on KREIA's board and has become our official tour guide for L.O.T.S. event videos. She will share her journey on what it's like to dive into the deep end.

Joe Hampton: Joe is another longtime KREIA member and Past president. You probably know him as "The Real Estate Guy," and especially, "The 1031 Exchange Guy." Joe started investing in 1979. His first investment was a 14-unit property in South Louisville. He's owned a 60-unit apartment complex, several 4-plexes, several duplexes and 25+ single-family homes. "I have been a wholesaler, rehabber and flipper. I soon discovered you only get rich by buy and hold. I do a lot of 1031 exchanges and I currently invest in syndications. Currently I have money in 3 such syndications with an 8% preferred return."

Donnie Adkins: Donnie is another prolific landlord and entrepreneur. Follow him on Facebook as he finds and rehabs houses and takes us inside the life of an investor. Donnie currently serves on KREIA's board.
