May 11, 10 AM - Oregon Hill Overlook - 42nd Street Park Entrance

This 5.5 mile hike begins at the Oregon Hill Overlook (see photo) located near the intersection of South Pine Street and Oregon Hill Parkway. We will follow the North Bank Trail to Belle Isle, crossing the river on the Belle Isle pedestrian bridge and taking the NASCAR route around Belle Isle. After gaining the South side of the river we will follow Reedy Creek Trail and the riverside access road to the 42nd Street Park Entrance. After climbing the eighty-eight step stairway we will pick up the Buttermilk Trail to begin the return trip to Oregon Hill. At the 22nd Street Park Entrance we will reconnect with the Reedy Creek Trail and retrace our steps back to the starting point.

This is a hike over woodland trails, paved surfaces and paths beside the mighty James River. This hike will begin at the posted time, not five or ten minutes later. If you are unfamiliar with the meet up location, add a few minutes to your travel schedule so you can find it. Use the map included with the event description to get directions from your current location.

Participants should be able to maintain a pace of 2.5 miles per hour and possess the ability to negotiate rocks, roots, low hanging branches, uncertain footing on hills, steep ascents and descents, stream crossings, bridges and toxic plants in season. There is no parking lot at the rendezvous location. On street parking is available on S. Laurel, S Pine and on one side of Oregon Hill Parkway.
Important to know

• Rudimentary restroom facilities are available at Tredegar Street Parking lot and Reedy Creek Landing. Water is available at Reedy Creek Landing in season.

• What to bring

• Water bottle, a cap or a bonnet, sun glasses, clothing appropriate for the season, practical footwear, band aids, aspirin, sun block, dry clothing for the trip home.
