What we’re about
The Jacksonville SQL Server Users Group (JSSUG) is a registered non-profit 501c3 charitable organization providing free technical education about the Data Platform surrounding Microsoft SQL Server. This group was founded by Brian Knight in January 2003, creating a community for database developers and administrators in the Jacksonville area. JSSUG aims to educate, share knowledge, best practices, and network. Today, it is a community focusing on data, development, administration, and business intelligence. Free meetings are open to the public on the third Wednesday of every month. Meetings include presentations, technology announcements, local job opportunities, and quick brainstorming/guidance for users experiencing difficulty.

See all- PreCon: Microsoft Fabric for the Power BI Professional - Reza RadUniversity of North Florida, Jacksonville, FL
***** Register here: https://sqlsatjax.eventbrite.com/?aff=Meetup *****
This is a workshop for Power BI Developers to learn how they can enhance their existing Power BI solution with the components of Microsoft Fabric and how each component takes part in the overall architecture of the analytical solution.
In this workshop, features such as Data Engineering, Data Warehousing, Data Integration, and One Lake will be discussed as their role in a multi-layered architecture solution for Power BI. Attendees will learn how to use Dataflows and data pipelines to build the ETL solution, load the data into staging Lakehouse, apply data engineering scenarios, transform it into Star schema and then load it into a data warehouse, the importance of medallion architecture, the Onelake feature of Shortcut to re-use components and finally the Power BI DirectLake to have a better connection type from Power BI to the underlying data. The concepts will be discussed in detail with many hands-on lab exercises. Reza developed the content of this workshop based on his work with current customer projects, best practices, and experiences.
This is not a workshop about all the features of Fabric. Only the features directly related to Power BI solution architecture will be discussed. These are data engineering, integration, warehousing, and Power BI.
Attendees will leave this workshop with a ready-to-use plan and an approach to enhance their existing Power BI solution architecture to a multi-layered, easy-to-maintain solution using Microsoft Fabric. - PreCon: Mastering Query Tuning - Brent OzarUniversity of North Florida, Jacksonville, FL

You’ve been working with SQL Server for a few years, and you’re comfortable writing queries and reading execution plans.
In this 1-day session, Brent Ozar will use the same practical before-and-after techniques that he uses in his Query Challenges blog series in order to demonstrate what parts of your skills need to change as you modernize your databases.
You should be comfortable using SSMS to write multi-page queries, functions, and stored procedures. You should be comfortable identifying common query plan operators like index seeks & scans, key lookups, sorts, and parallelism, and comparing plans.
In this session, you’ll:
* Learn the difference between early and late estimation errors
* Learn how to choose between temp tables, CTEs, and table variables
