What we’re about
For good or bad, the Matrix is coming. The Internet of Things. IoT. What is it and why does it matter?
According to Global Standards Initiative, IoT is the global infrastructure for the information society, enabling advanced services by interconnecting (physical and virtual) things based on existing and evolving interoperable information and communication technologies.
Essentially, IoT is about connectivity and data, and its evolving ecosystem is driven by mobility and convergence. Whether you're a software developer, hardware engineer or tech evangelist, it's up to us to shape the future.
What we want to become, Star Trek or Skynet (Terminator), starts here.

See all- Autonomous Vehicles Research by UTD's Dr. Justin Ruths, UTD Associate ProfessorSpringHill Suites Dallas Richardson/Plano, Richardson, TX
Come join us on May 1st and hear:
Justin Ruths, PhD, Associate Professor of Mechanical Engineering and Systems Engineering programs at UT Dallas
([https://www.linkedin.com/in/justin-ruths-00a59b4/]
and
([https://me.utdallas.edu/people/faculty/justin-ruths/]present:
Abstract:
Each year 20+ undergraduates from across the engineering school at the University of Texas at Dallas come together to work on Project Nova. The charge of the Nova team is to build a modular, open-source self-driving software stack that will allow researchers in academic environments to contribute to the rapidly evolving field of autonomous driving.
The team also builds, maintains, and operates a full-scale autonomous vehicle whimsically named Hail Bopp for the rides it may give one day. Hail Bopp and demos of the Nova system have been seen at the UTD homecoming parade, Richardson holiday parade, and numerous outreach events.
This talk will provide an overview of the approach taken to autonomous driving by the Nova team, share the specific research journeys of two students on the team, and provide a forum to demystify some of the technology behind self-driving cars.
Presenter:
Dr Justin Ruths is an associate professor with appointments in Mechanical Engineering and Systems Engineering at University of Texas at Dallas with degrees from Rice, Columbia, and Washington University in Saint Louis.Prior to joining UT Dallas, he was an assistant professor and founding faculty member of the Singapore University of Technology and Design in collaboration with MIT. He is a recipient of the NSF CAREER Award.
His work has recently focused on attack and anomaly detection and mitigation in automation applications, which is the line of research that led him to autonomous driving. In addition to building autonomous vehicles, he also drives a 1978 Chevy pickup and aspires to work on a 1972 Bronco sitting in his garage.
