Taiwan - Travel & Volunteer Experience

Taiwan has been in the news lately, but few Americans have visited the island country that is roughly the size of Maryland. At this event, we will shed some lights on the country - the colonial influence from the Netherlands, China and Japan, major festivals, the diverse landscape for nature lovers, under-the-radar destinations and food recommendations.

The country is also at the forefront of the fight against communism as democracy worldwide comes under assault by authoritarian regimes that take advantage of vulnerabilities in the democratic systems. The speaker will share her recent volunteer experience in Taiwan with the grassroots movement to recall 30% of the parliament members to fend off foreign intervention and unlawful expansion of legislative power. She will talk about the lessons she learned about civic activism and how they rally support across party lines.

Space is limited due to small space. We will send out the access code to the meeting room at least 48 hours in advance. PLEASE BRING YOUR OWN BEVERAGES.
