What we’re about
The purpose of Insight Denver is to promote and encourage the practice of Insight Meditation through an approach that is guided by the central tenets of the Theravadin Buddhist tradition and informed by the diverse array of teachings available to American Buddhists. Our primary meeting will be on Sunday evenings, with twice/year day long retreats, along with community celebrations for Vesak (the life, teachings and death of The Buddha normally in the spring), and Day of Gratitude (normally in the fall).
Over time, we will be posting videos of teachings, offering one-on-one guidance for meditation, Kaliyana Mitta groups (spiritual friendship), and much more.
Please see our website for more information.

Who We Are
The Raft is a peer-led group using Buddhist teachings to support recovery from addiction.
We follow core Buddhist principles including mindfulness and the 5 precepts, while honoring 12 Step traditions like sponsorship and confidentiality. All paths are welcome.
Weekly Format
We begin at 6:30 PM with 30 minutes of fellowship time—a chance to connect, chat, and settle in.
Each meeting is facilitated by a group member and begins with readings and a brief introduction, followed by a 15–20 minute meditation. Afterward, we open the space for discussion and Q&A.
Why The RAFT?
Our name comes from a well-known Buddhist parable. The Buddha describes a raft, built from sticks and twine, used to cross a river. Once safely across, the raft is left behind—it served its purpose but is no longer needed.
This story reminds us to use whatever tools help us in our recovery—then let go when it’s time. The teachings, practices, and insights shared here are all part of your raft: supports to help you grow, stay sober, and continue your journey with clarity and compassion.

It is a great introduction for those new to meditation, and a skillful refresher for those who would like a boost to their practice. Taught by the Teachers Collective of Insight Denver, this series will offer instruction, practice time, and space for Q&A.

Insight Denver is part of the vibrant and changing meditation community in the greater Denver area. It teaches Vipassana, or Insight, style of meditation, as well as other related practices from the Early Buddhist tradition. We draw on teachers across the country to bring the dharma to this community while encouraging discussion, practice and volunteer opportunities. Insight Denver is supported by a Board and a Teachers Collective. Most important, Insight Denver is the us who shows up every Sunday to sit together. How Do We Operate?
In the tradition of Theravadan Buddhism, we operate solely on dana, donations, or gifts that are freely given. This is a practice and not an obligation. Dana supports retreats, community events, developing new practice opportunities and more. To give in person, there is a dana basket for cash or checks made to “Insight Denver,” and PayPal/Venmo QR codes at First Baptist. Or click here for our website. To Volunteer
Another way to give, is to volunteer and become more involved and contribute to the ongoing success and stability of our community. We have several groups that focus on facility management, tea/cookies/flowers, AV and tech support, website collaboration, and administration. Email insightdenverinfo@gmail.com and put “Volunteer” in the subject line.If you'd like to be on the Insight Denver email list, please email insightdenverinfo@gmail.com, and put in the subject line "Sign Me Up!"
