Comedy in Narrative Games - Lessons Learned Through Writing Lil’ Guardsman
How do you make comedic timing work in an interactive medium where that timing is in the hands of the player? Join two of the writers of Lil’ Guardsman as they unpack how they aimed for getting the biggest laughs possible by approaching their process with a comedy writers’ room structure. Tactics and perspectives on how to do ‘funny’ individually, but more importantly how to cultivate and support a funny team.
Speakers
Scott Christian (he/him)is the director of Hilltop Studios, and is the co-creator and narrative director for its inaugural title Lil’ Guardsman. Scott has worked for almost two decades as a writer and award-winning musical director and composer in theatre and comedy across Canada. Scott is excited to be leading the charge on Hilltop’s next game, which just began production!
Matt Bernard (he/him) is a Canadian indigenous writer and game designer, as well as the voice over director for Lil’ Guardsman. He is a published playwright, and has been teaching comedy writing and delivery for over 15 years.
