Hawai‘i Center for AI aims to serve our islands by creating a community of innovators, entrepreneurs, and thinkers dedicated to exploring and harnessing the potential of artificial intelligence. This community will focus on fostering collaboration across various sectors, driving economic growth, and addressing unique local challenges through AI solutions.

This is a free workshop hosted by the Hawaii Center for AI and the AI Safety Awareness Project. The event is open to the public for all levels of experience with AI.
We’ll give a quick overview of the current state of AI capabilities, with a focus on how much has changed in the last 5 months, as well as where AI is going over the next 1-5 years. The purpose of this workshop is to give a broad introduction to risks and benefits of current and near-future AI systems as well as how AI researchers at top AI companies view the future of AI development.
We’ll have a quick introductory talk, some demonstrations of current AI capabilities and risks, and then close with some forecasting/prediction exercises about where AI might be going in the future.

AISAP is a volunteer-led organization dedicated to raising public awareness about modern AI, its benefits and risks, and the vital role communities play in shaping its development.About the Presenters:
Changlin Li, Co-Founder, AI Safety Awareness Project
Changlin began his career at the Systemized Intelligence Lab at Bridgewater Associates for 5 years before joining Vowel.com (now acquired by Zapier) as a founding engineer for 4 years. Along the way he did a stint at the Recurse Center in New York City studying formal verification of software and then another stint at the Recurse Center with a focus on modern AI and AI safety. He holds an A.B. in Mathematics with a Secondary Concentration in Comparative Religion from Harvard University.
Jeba Sania, Senior Volunteer Lead, AI Safety Awareness Project
An MIT computer science graduate and product manager, Jeba has contributed to social impact tech projects globally—from Syria to Yemen—building humanitarian technologies designed to save lives in conflict zones. Her work includes developing systems for emergency airstrike warnings and mediation platforms for peacekeeping efforts. She brings a deep perspective on ethical technology and public interest innovation, with a passion for ensuring tech serves humanity’s most urgent needs.
Evon Bradford, Director & Board Secretary, Hawaii Center for AI
Evon is a community technologist and advocate for equitable AI education. She helps lead Hawaii Center for AI's outreach and educational programming, building inclusive pathways into AI literacy for Hawaii’s diverse communities through events and partnerships. Evon has a background in project management, television production, and UX research. She’s passionate about using technology to build futures rooted in equity and purpose.
Van Hill, Presenter, Consultant, and Veteran Outreach Coordinator, Hawaii Center for AI
A self-taught AI enthusiast with a background in construction and entrepreneurship, Van brings strategic systems thinking to AI education. As HCAI’s resident veteran advocate, he connects the dots between AI and real-world problem solving for businesses and everyday people throughout Hawaii.
