Roan Mountain Weekend

Get your sunscreen and hiking poles ready for a weekend at Roan Mountain. We will hike on the Appalachian Trail from Carvers Gap to 19E. It is one of the most beautiful hikes on the Appalachian Trail with views on five different balds, and the memorable climbs over Little Hump and Big Hump. It is a 14.7 mile hike with 2,267 feet of elevation gain.

I plan to drive up to Roan Mountain Friday night and leave Sunday morning. I will stay at Mountain Harbour Hostel for the weekend. Please read the information below on the shuttle, accommodation and food options.

The Shuttle:
Everyone will meet at Mountain Harbour Hostel at 8:30am. The shuttle will leave promptly at 9:00am. The base cost of the shuttle is $40 for four people and then an additional $10 per person. The shuttle can take up to 20 people. Expect to pay a fuel surcharge in addition to the $10 per person. Below is a link to reserve a seat for the shuttle:

Overnight Accommodations:
There are several options for overnight accommodation.

Mountain Habour offers a bed & breakfast, hostel beds, and tent sites. The bed and breakfast is $140-$180 per night. The hostel beds are $30 a night, and tent camping is $15 a night. They are currently in the middle of rebuilding the barn with the hostel beds, and it should be ready by the end of May for overnight guests.

There is a parking fee at Mountain Harbor of $5 if using shuttle fee and parking alone is $15 a night.

The Station at 19E also offers hostel beds for $30- $35 day night.

I plan to stay at Mountain Harbour unless the hostel beds are not ready due to construction delays.

Food:
I plan to eat dinner both nights at The Station at 19E's pub.
