Hiwassee River Adventure

Let’s cool off from that summer heat with some whitewater action on the cool 54 degree Hiwassee River. This is a fun and fairly easy 6 mile float down the river. We will spice it up with a few Class 2 waves. If that sounds scary, please know that people tube this river and the outfitter will allow 12yr olds to go down in a single person inflatable kayak (so don’t be intimidated).

We will take our time, stop for lunch about halfway, and maybe swim a wave train (optional) for fun!

Most people opt for the Single Ducky. While tubing is fun, I do not recommend it for this group trip since there will be duckies and kayaks going and the tubes are much slower. Rafts are bulky on this river, and they really don’t give you as fun of an experience since they really flatten everything out.

We will meet at the Outfitter to get everyone signed in and fitted with a life jacket (pfd) and paddle (included in cost above). Then, outfitter buses will head to the top. We will meet together before getting on the river to review some safety information. Group members who kayak will be joining the fun.

WHAT TO BRING:
-Wicking or quick drying clothes to keep you warm - No Cotton!
-Closed toed water shoes that fasten well for walking on some rocks and/or swimming
-Sunscreen and a hat
-Sunglasses (only with a strap)
-Water, snacks, lunch, and any needed medication - food and meds in ziplock bag
-A full change of clothes and a towel for after the river since you will get wet
Remember if it isn't secured you may lose it.

WHAT NOT TO BRING:
-Leave your keys with the outfitter
-Phones (unless you have a waterproof case and a way to secure it to your person)
-Alcohol, glass, styrofoam

It’s important that everyone is on time (or early). We would hate to leave a kayaker behind because they’re running late. If your plans change and you can’t come on the trip, please change your RSVP so we’re not waiting for you or looking for you.
*** Failure to change your RSVP, or let us know at least TWO hours ahead of the event start time, qualifies as a 'No-Show' with me, and you may not be able to join future events. ***
