Details

GlasgowPHP is excited to bring you another meetup! Whether you're a regular from our past events or new to the community, we invite PHP developers of all skill levels to join us as we reconnect, share insights, and reignite the local PHP scene.

We'll be meeting at Barclays Eagle Labs on Tuesday 29th April 6:30pm for refreshments, talks start 7pm.

This meetup will feature engaging talks from two guest speakers including Laravel core developer, Graham Campbell!

Graham Campbell - Scaling So Hard, We Had to Shard

As your PHP application grows, database performance can become a bottleneck. While adding read replicas, copies of your database that handle read-only queries, can help with scaling reads, they don’t solve issues with too many writes.

That’s where write-sharding comes in. This technique distributes data across multiple databases, reducing both the write load and the amount of data on each node. In this talk, we’ll break down what write-sharding is, when to use it, and how to implement it effectively in a PHP application.

If you’re looking to scale beyond read replicas and handle high write loads, this session will give you the tools to do it, and how I implemented this at SMS Marketing SaaS Voxie, allowing them to service large new customers sending more in two hours than every other customer combined in a week!

Pizza and drinks will be provided, giving everyone a great chance to relax, network, and socialize with fellow PHP enthusiasts. Thanks go to Barclays Eagle Labs, ByteHire and Raven Controls.

We’re thrilled to host everyone again and can’t wait to see you all.

Please RSVP so we have numbers for catering and the event space.
