Rapidan Camp and Big Rock Falls (Moderately Strenuous)

Details
Easily a favorite of mine, this hike winds through a spectacular forest setting and offers beautiful stream views, a small but beautiful waterfall, and lots of history.
I’ll be allowing extra time on this hike to explore around Rapidan Camp (also known as Camp Hoover), where we’ll lunch and enjoy all the history facts this area has to offer.
If anyone feels inclined to do a bit of tailgating after the hike, bring a chair to hang out. I'll have some cold seltzers and snacks to share.
Difficulty: Moderately strenuous, approximately 7.2 miles, and about 1,320 feet of elevation gain
Fair warning: there are multiple stream crossings, none too harrowing, but water levels do change, so come prepared
What to Bring/Wear: weather-appropriate clothing, good hiking boots, trekking poles, water, snacks/lunch
Weather: If the weather forecast gets scary, I'll cancel and reschedule for another weekend. Keep an eye on the comments for updates.
Dog Policy: Dogs are welcome on this trail. Please keep them leashed for their safety, and for the comfort of other hikers and the wildlife that lives within the park.
Fees: This hike is in Shenandoah National Park, so bring a pass; otherwise the fee (good for one week) is $30 per vehicle
RSVP: If you find you’re not going to be able to attend, please update your RSVP to “Not Going” as soon as possible. This allows those on the waitlist to have the opportunity to attend and time to prepare.
