Fortune's Cove and Dr. Ho's (Moderate)

Believe it or not, I have yet to hike Fortune’s Cove, and I was told that the best time to hike there is before the leaves come in to get the best of the views.

We’ll keep this at a moderate hike and do the shorter of the two loops (White trail). I’ve been warned that the other one is quite challenging, and while I’m up for a challenge I try to keep my Friday hikes more easy-paced. That said, I gather this is still a hike in the moderate range, rather than easy, so sign up at your own discretion.

Afterwards anyone who wishes to join for great salads or giant delicious pizza can meet at Dr. Ho’s Humble Pie at 29 and Plank Road in North Garden.

Difficulty Rating: Moderate; Approximately 3.7 miles with just under 800 feet elevation gain

What to Bring/Wear: plenty of water, sunscreen, snacks, trekking poles, proper footwear and weather-appropriate clothing (mornings are still cool/cold -afternoons not so much).

Weather: If inclement weather is forecasted, I’ll move this hike to the following Friday.

Dog Policy: Fortune’s Cove is a nature preserve, and no dogs are allowed. Leave Bailey and Bear with their favorite toys to curl up with and snooze at home.
