Short Fiction Saturday welcomes local writers of all skill levels to come together to share short pieces of their own work as well as to hear and discuss the work of each other.

Readings should be limited to no more than 15 minutes / 2000 words to leave time for group discussion of the piece as well as other readers.

Shared Prompts for April 26th readings:
CHARACTER / ARCHETYPE: Gourmet &/or Race Driver
OBJECT / IDEA: Frying Pan &/or Picture Frame
PLACE / SETTING: Arroyo &/or Cabin

• Write a story or poem somehow incorporating, referencing, or reinterpreting some or all of these aspects. These elements do not need to be the focus of the piece and full creative license is given as to how these might be woven into the work. Any writers who are participating in the monthly prompts will be given priority for reading, but open mic readings from other stories, poems, and excerpts will be welcome, time permitting.
• Writers of all skill levels, genres, and subject matter are welcome at this event. (Yep, poems and other shareable creative forms are good too).
• The purpose of this event is to appreciate the work of other writers while also discussing the impact of the shared stories. It is not intended to be a forum for actively workshopping stories or critiquing them in a formal sense. The purpose of the discussion is primarily to share how listening to the story has affected us, rather than to identify how a piece could be improved based on an external criteria.
• Since there is no screening process for content, note that pieces may be imperfect and/or problematic, and trigger warnings are not required. Content that participants find questionable or offensive will be discussed based on a protocol evaluating awareness, intent, and effectiveness, but we will not be providing a verdict on the piece's value.
