WE ARE FINALLY BACK :-) with an incredible touch-base venue at @_mono30

// *Interactive design and gaming: the Game Developers Barcelona will also soon resume its activities, here the focus will be on pure design. Migrate here if you are interested just in coding//

"mono30" is a “petit” gallery and cultural space located just a 10-minute walk from Fundación Joan Miró, at the foot of the Montjuïc Gardens – Poble Sec metro stop– . The area is surrounded by lively bars and restaurants, stretching from Carrer de Blai to Parlament.

We’re ready to restart our events and gatherings, blending our core focus on pixel and vector art with traditional art and design, enhanced by new generative tools. The re-born group is a space for exchange, professional and personal growth, and meaningful connections; where conversations can range from purely aesthetic discussions to deeper explorations of the philosophical implications of art and creativity.

All our original core community (and new subscribers) are in invited to the group’s reopening event. It will be officially announced soon (first week of February 2025), and hosted at the gallery just right after their upcoming exhibition launches next week.

A big thanks to our host @_mono30 + collaborators.

We’re back! MAY THE PIXEL* BE WITH YOU!

*Although "pixel" is a modern term, its components have roots in Latin:

  • Pix*:*
    • "Pix" can be traced to "pix" in Medieval Latin, meaning "pitch" (a sticky, black substance), although this connection is tenuous and largely coincidental.
    • The abbreviation "pix" (as in pictures) itself doesn’t directly connect to Latin but carries a more modern lineage.
  • Element:
    • The "el" in "pixel" connects to the Latin word "elementum", meaning "a basic or fundamental part." This is where the sense of a "building block" or "unit" arises.
    • In this context, the pixel as a "basic unit of a picture" resonates with the Latin idea of "elementum."

### Conceptual Meaning

While "pixel" doesn’t have a direct Latin translation, its conceptual roots would align with something like "elementum picturae" (a basic unit of a picture or image).
In summary:

  • "Pixel" is a modern creation, rooted in abbreviations of English terms like "pictures" and "elements."
  • Its Latin connection lies in the broader origin of the term "element," derived from "elementum," meaning a fundamental or basic part.
