What we’re about

This group is to connect through music, and to join like-minded music lovers in developing and refining the skills and awareness it takes to jam with others with confidence.

ALL levels welcome - from beginner to advanced.

These are generally creative music making jams, meaning we improvise and create the music as we go. For example, one person plays a percussion rhythm, another adds a chord progression, others sing a vocal theme, and others still might solo improvise over the top. In this way we are creating and conversing in the musical language together, practicing listening and creativity.

It is also open to anyone sharing and teaching songs they enjoy, for the group to play as well. As the name suggests, it's Open! It's all about connecting and sharing.

We have a chord chart playlist on Ultimate Guitar which everyone is welcome to save. Learn chords to any songs on this list that you enjoy, then at the jams we can jam on songs we have in common.

You can find the playlist here: https://www.ultimate-guitar.com/user/playlist/shared?h=NO4_LfHXJymQdYTmdieHy0LC

We create music of the moment, share songs, sing, drum, dance and play. You don't have to consider yourself a "musician" to participate. It's about connection and creating a new type of environment where everyone has a place, whether you have very little experience, or a lot.

Modern life can be stressful, hectic, and disconnecting. Stuck to our screens, we try to find connection that way, but nothing can replace real in-the-flesh contact.

When we practice music alone, we can only partially experience the beauty and benefits of playing music. We want to express ourselves, and we want to share that with others.

Making music regularly is the best possible remedy! It is stress relief, connection, expression, and fun all rolled into one. It is the perfect place to learn and practice, and you don't even realise you're improving, because you're having so much fun doing it.

If you feel shy or nervous because you don't think you can play, I encourage you to come along! There is no minimum skill or experience level required, just a willingness to try something new, and be curious about the sounds you can make :)

Bring any instruments you have that you'd like to play, and share. There will be a selection of percussion available to those who don't have any to bring - and there is always your voice!

Come with your ears, minds and hearts open, and be ready to go on a collective musical journey!

Contribution: $10 (to cover running costs)
