DEAR ALL

First there is no obvious meeting place named but it does say “main entrance” with afew steps, so I suggest there, ideally outside if not raining.

Secondly this is ONE PM! Not 2 as usual. If you want to buy a snack before or during there is a Mimis Bakehouse.

Third there are 80 signed up! This isn’t desperate because we know to our cost that often less than a third come - but if you know you’re not coming please do take your name OFF.

The Mimi Bakehouse says its mainly takeaway but anyway i suggest a rendezvous there c 2.30pm for coffee as were bound to straggle.

Something a little different - a Japanese cherry blossom festival at Scotland's own Japanese garden. good for photographers to MAKE art, us to be in the art 🤣 but there will also I think be exhibitions or dolls or origami. On a nice day it should be lovely. if not nice we'll sort it out!

Founded in 1861, Edinburgh Photographic Society (EPS) welcomes all who share an interest in photography – from the complete beginner to the most skilled photographer. EPS has an active community of members from Edinburgh and beyond - it welcomes photographers from anywhere in the world as members. It also hosts a variety of exhibitions throughout the year, including international events during the Fringe.
This is its annual exhibition of award-winning members' photographs, some of which were taken by people from our very own Meetup group!

Story: selected works from the Edinburgh Printmakers' collection brings together works spanning decades, created in EP's studios by members and invited artists over the years. The exhibition is a mix of past and present, uncovering rarely seen or long-forgotten prints alongside some of the most recognised pieces, to look beyond technique and aesthetics and consider the meaning behind the works.

***Impressions: selected works from the Jerwood collection ***presents an exciting selection of fine art prints predominantly featuring the process of etching, but also showcasing other printmaking techniques, including screenprinting, lithography, linocut, and monotype. It features twenty exceptional works by internationally renowned artists, including Hurvin Anderson, Frank Auerbach, Ian Davenport, Tracey Emin, Lucian Freud, Angela Gill, Maggi Hambling, David Hockney, Augustus John, Ben Nicholson, Paula Rego, Bridget Riley, Eva Rothschild, and Yinka Shonibare.
N.B. For the duration of the exhibition, there are free gallery tours of ***Story *** and ***Impressions *** on Sundays at 2pm. No need to book - just join a tour at the front desk.

These two small exhibitions are running concurrently at the CAC. We should easily have time to see both.

John Bellany was one of the most significant Scottish painters of the modern era. A Life in Self-Portraiture brings together over 80 autobiographical drawings, paintings, prints and sketchbooks, spanning from the early 1960s until the artist’s death in 2013, showing him as a prolific self-portraitist, obsessively documenting his own image throughout his lifetime.

Scheduled to complement John Bellany: A Life in Self-Portraiture, this survey exhibition examines the wider context of post-war Scottish art. Charting the years between the late 1940s and late 1990s, it showcases evolving approaches to figurative and landscape subjects, the growth of abstraction and pop art, and the development of new media. Out of Chaos presents a range of artworks from the City Art Centre’s permanent collection, featuring key pieces by William Johnstone, Joan Eardley, Eduardo Paolozzi, Ian Hamilton Finlay, Elizabeth Blackadder and Maud Sulter.
