2025 Forest Park Beginner Friendly Fridays All Trails Challenge: Hike #18

WHERE: Lower BPA Rd Trailhead (12015 NW Saint Helens Rd.)
TOTAL MILES: 5.7 miles
ELEVATION GAIN: 1,542 ft
PACE: 1.8 to 2.3 avg mph*
DIFFICULTY RATING: Mostly moderate but strenuous on the uphill climbs
ESTIMATED TIME: 4 hrs

PARKING: The address given is for location purposes only. Driving Northbound on Hwy 30, you will pass by NW Marina Way on your right-hand side. Shortly thereafter the hwy veers left and on your right-hand side is a gravel shoulder that can accommodate many vehicles. Look for me parked there in Grey Mariner with the hatch up.

This is hike #18 in a series of 20 hikes that cover the entire 80 miles of trail in Forest Park. Because not all of the trails can be done as an independent loop it will require hiking more than 115 miles to complete the entire challenge. If you miss a hike, don't worry. We will continue to cycle through the entire set of hikes and makeup hikes are available upon request.

This is Portland so expect rain and mud. Lots of it. On some days we'll literally wallow in it. Wear waterproof or water-resistant hiking boots and bring your trekking poles if you have them. Wear adjustable layers. Bring a snack.

This is a beginner friendly hike so nobody will be left behind! My pace is steady. For some it is too slow, but I do try to push myself as best I can. These won't be easy hikes. This is a group hike so all participants are expected to hike with the group between the designated pace setter and the sweep. If you need to rush off ahead and set a faster pace this is not the hike for you.

My hikes are cannabis friendly.

Dogs are welcome.
