This hands-on workshop is all about photographing people in less-than-ideal outdoor lighting—and still coming home with great shots!
We’ll explore how to handle tricky natural light situations such as harsh midday sun, strong backlighting, and dappled light. While we can’t guarantee every lighting condition on the same day, we’ll focus on what’s available and show you how to make the most of it. The techniques we teach are easily adaptable to other lighting scenarios, including overcast skies.
Working with a confident, expressive model who has experience performing and posing, we’ll demonstrate simple yet effective ways to shape and improve available light using everyday tools like reflectors, speedlights, and basic modifiers. It’s not about having fancy gear—it’s about learning to see the light and use it creatively.
We’ll begin the day in the studio with a comprehensive theoretical session led by Riccardo and Anita, featuring practical slide presentations that cover the core techniques, tools, and creative approaches. After the theory, we’ll head outside for the shooting session. Everyone will have the chance to alternate between the roles of photographer and assistant, gaining valuable insights from both perspectives.
To wrap up the day, we’ll review a selection of the photos taken during the workshop and hold an open Q&A session to clarify any remaining questions and reflect on the experience. You’ll leave with new skills, great images, and a PDF of the course slides to support your learning journey.
