Über uns
The purpose of this group is to reach out to Berliners that are eager to know more about the buildings and open spaces that surround them every day.
Hello, I'm José! I'm an architect living in Berlin since 2007, and since last year I'm venturing as an independent educator for architecture and urban design. I love this city, and I love to share what I know. I thought of Meetup, as a place to find curious and active people that want to engage more deeply with Berlin.
Here I organize guided walks in English that were conceived for curious new Berliners, but which are so specialized that also long time Berliners can enjoy them as well. The tours are conceived by me and are based on deep research (hence the slow rollout of new ones). Furthermore, it is important to me that everyone has a great experience, both in learning and enjoyment. For this reason, I keep the groups small. This also allows us to connect more. Questions are very much welcome, and I'm eager to learn from you! Please understand that my work surpasses the hobby level and, thus, I need to create some revenue. Your support is much appreciated.
Because of its special status in the past and present, Berlin is a rich place to explore the questions of the built environment. But please note that these walks are not focused on landmarks or main historical events. I'm deliberately focusing on the features of the everyday city that we often don't consider "important" but which relate to us more strongly. I'm also not exploring architecture from the traditional architect's point of view, that is, from an authorship and aesthetics perspective. I rather like to see it as a result of many forces that are socially and culturally rooted. It is more about understanding architecture than admiring it.
But I hope that, after a walk with me, you'll start to see more things in the city and, thus, appreciate it more.
Hope to see you soon!
José
