Launched in 2016, the Gardena smart system was built on top of proprietary technology. As of 2025, the proprietary stack has largely been replaced with the Zephyr ecosystem.
During this talk we'll talk about our journey, lessons learned and problems yet to be resolved.

- Marc Lasch: Marc Lasch is an embedded software developer working at GARDENA digital hub in Zürich. His focus is on maintaining and improving the IoT platform across the layers.
- Reto Schneider: Reto Schneider is embedded software developer and open source evangelist. He is located at the GARDENA digital hub in Zurich and works on the low(er) level embedded aspects of the IoT platform.
