LM: Caledonia State Park (~21 miles)
Details
This is a good trip for Applicants who are new to the group. I also need to get started vetting some people interested in my summer trip to Colorado. I'm aiming to have the trip be roughly half applicants and half experienced club members, so I will pull in people out of order from the waitlist. I'm aiming for a trip roster of around ten since the campsite is large but it's still on the AT. It's early in the year, so it will still be cold. I might cancel it in the event of snow or lots of cold rain since it's not a W-1 trip.
We will meet at Grosvenor Metro Station Kiss and Ride parking lot at 8 AM and drive to the trailhead just outside Caladonia State park. The preferred parking lot is labeled "Michaux State Forest Trailhead Parking" and is just across the street from Thaddeus Steven's Blacksmith Shop. If it's full, there's the Caladonia SP overflow lot or lot near the AT if we pop into the park visitor's center.
Our hike will cover some trails in the State Forest, and also intersect with the Appalachian Trail. Our splits will be ~11 miles and 9 miles.
DCULers have maps. Below are a list of map resources you can bring for the trip:

The routing is North Bound, (NOBO), on the AT, right on Hosack Run after the AT shelter, left on Greenwood, around the North side of Long Pine Run Reservoir, then up Rocky Knob trail to the AT. NOBO on the AT one mile to camp near Birch Run Shelter. There's slightly better camping right by Birch Run instead of at the Shelter, but we'll take what we can given our group size. Coming back, it's a straight shot on the AT SOBO.
Carpool -- Is encouraged. The club standard is for riders to reimburse drivers $0.10 per mile.
Dues -- Members and above, don't forget to pay your annual dues if you haven't yet. To pay your dues via PayPal, use this link: https://www.paypal.me/JenniferAdach/10
($10 annual dues plus a $5 suggested donation to City Kids Wilderness Project.) Applicants do not need to pay dues.
