What we’re about

This is a new group; come and join us in cleaning up our local waterways! My husband and I started trash paddling during the pandemic as a way to get outside, stay active, and to help make our community and environment just a little bit better. We're now looking to meet and connect with others who share these interests!

Whether you like kayaking, canoeing, or standup paddle boarding, join us for a trip on the river (the Anacostia or Potomac, depending on the event) where we will take a leisurely paddle trip while also collecting trash floating in the river and/or along the banks.

You don't need to be an expert paddler, but this isn't a class nor are we qualified to provide training/lessons. That being said, steering your way to pick up bottles or other items in the water is a great way to work on your paddling skills! We'll aim to paddle around 3-4 miles total.

What we ask of you: provide your own kayak/canoe/paddleboard (or rent one at the starting point) and be prepared to carry the trash you pick up with you (in/on your kayak/canoe/paddleboard). A life vest/Personal Flotation Device (PFD) is required to participate.

Join us for our next event to help keep trash out of our local rivers and thereby out of the Chesapeake Bay and, eventually, the ocean.

*Note: This group is not associated with a particular organization or formal volunteer opportunity. It's just a group for like-minded individuals who would like to leave our local waterways better than we found them. Each participant is 100% responsible for their own participation in the event and any risks associated with their participation.
