REQUIREMENTS

OTHER
The ride is automatically canceled if:
It is raining.
The roads are wet.
Predicted chance of rain is greater than 30% per wunderground.com.
WHAT TO BRING
A helmet.
Cell phone.
ID and emergency contact number(s).
Hydration. Recommended are one bottler of water and one bottle of electrolytes-enhanced fluid.
Food (energy bars, gels or other high-carbohydrate snack).
At least one spare tube.
A portable pump or a CO2 set.
Two tire levers.
Appropriate clothing for temperature.
A rear and front blinking light.
DOs
Check and adjust your tire pressure no more than 12 hours before the ride.
One day before the ride, ensure your bicycle is in proper working order by taking if for a spin around the block. Your bicycle should be properly shifting, braking, not making any unusual noise and have nothing loose that should not be loose.
Ride single file whenever there is traffic on the road and stay as far to the right as is safe and reasonable.
Hold your line ride directly behind the rider in front of you.
Maintain constant pedaling. Maintaining a steady pace helps the rider behind you predict your speed.
Signal well in advance before turns. Also, audibly communicate your intentions.
“On your left” whenever you are passing fellow rider.
“Car back” when a car is approaching from the rear. It means to form single file.
“Car up” when a car is stopped ahead in our lane.
“Slowing” or “Stopping” to let the person behind you know to slow down too. If safe to do so, also use the following hand signal: left hand down with palm facing to rear.
“Walker up” lets the other riders know that there is a pedestrian or jogger up ahead in lane.
“Hole” or “Gravel” or “Debris” warns the riders behind of a hazard. In addition use hand signal by pointing to the hazard.
Look carefully over your shoulder before signaling and pulling out into the lane. Don’t move if cars are in the lane or overtaking rapidly—they have the right of way. (The use of a rearview mirror will make it easier to see behind you.)
Come to a full stop at red lights and always stop behind the last car.
Come to a stop at stop signs. Take turns with cars at four-way stops.
DON’Ts
Don’t call “Clear” at an intersection because conditions can change rapidly – each rider needs to make their own decision about when it’s safe to go. Instead, say: “Going through.”
Don’t signal to drivers that it’s safe to pass the group because conditions change rapidly, and riders in front of us might suddenly move out into the lane.
Don’t wear headphones or ear buds because we won’t be able to hear when fellow riders communicate with us or hear vehicles.
Don’t use your cell phone while riding. If you must answer a call safely pull over.
Don’t let your front wheel overlap (half-wheel) with the wheel in front of you because if they move to the side, you’ll crash.
