Have fun playing, learning and practicing the royal game with other chess enthusiasts!
Any ages or ability levels are welcome; parents who want to bring their children are free to do so as long as they are accompanied.
There is no membership fee to join in on the fun, but we do have a few simple rules that should be easy for everyone to follow!
*** During the pandemic, please be courteous and mask up! ***
-
Sportsmanship is important; please try not to be a sore winner or a sore loser.
-
Please do not take it as an insult if someone declines a challenge or a rematch.
-
While disagreements between players and other frustrations may occur, name calling, threats, and violence are not acceptable solutions; if anyone becomes a problem, let one of the organizers know rather than starting an argument or escalating the situation.
-
Every meetup has an official start and end time and it is listed on the website. Cancellations will also be listed there and we will do our best to make sure any cancellations are posted at least 24 hours prior to the start of the event.
-
Please respect that different individuals have different time control preferences and some people prefer blitz or bullet chess and some people prefer to play without a clock.
-
Chess boards, pieces, and clocks are not provided, so if you own any of the above, please bring them with you!
-
Please try to clean up after yourself.
-
Please do not leave unused boards set up at tables.
-
We cannot be held responsible for any lost or stolen property; you and only you are responsible for watching over your things!
-
Please keep in mind that we are not officially what most would call a chess club, but rather a social meetup group that is geared toward meeting other chess players and promoting chess!
-
We reserve our right to issue temporary or permanent bans to anyone. If any of our venues ban you from their premises, that is outside our control.
-
Please be respectful to all of our organizers who are donating their time to help make the meetup more fun for everyone. If you are interested in becoming an organizer, let us know!
Please don't take the game too seriously. We have players who are masters and players who are just learning the rules of the games; winning and losing doesn't matter here. We're not playing rated games, and this isn't a tournament. We are all about having fun and making new friends who share our love of chess! Keeping this attitude in mind, I guarantee that you will not only have a blast, but will most likely improve your chess game over time without even realizing it!
Also, please keep in mind that each venue is letting us host our events there for free! As long as we keep buying drinks/snacks/etc and showing our friendliness and patronage towards the venues and their employees, they will continue to welcome us. Not everyone has to buy meals every week, but if you can afford to buy at least something small occasionally, they will appreciate it! As long as our relationships with our venues remain mutually beneficial, we all win!
