A groundbreaking documentary examining the life of Rachel Carson and the profound and lasting implications of her environmental work. This 52-minute film features interview with Rachel Caron's adopted son, Roger Christie, her biographer, Linda Lear, and other notable writers, scientists, and advocates. Following the film we will have discussion and questions with Mark Madison, US Fish and Wildlife service historian Robert Musil, President and CEO, the Rachel Carson Council, Inc.

Speakers:

Mark Madison, PhD has been the national historian for the US Fish and Wildlife service since 1999. In that role he supervises the USFWS Museum/Archives with 500,000 historic items chronicling the agency's history over the last century and a half including Rachel Carson's private library. Mark has a PhD in the History of Science from Harvard University and degrees in Biology and History from Macalester College.

Robert K. Musil, PhD, MPH is the President and CEO of the Rachel Carson Council, the legacy environmental organization envisioned by Rachel Carson and founded in 1965 by her closest friends and colleagues. He is the founder of the Rachel Carson Council Campus Network of over 80 US colleges and universities with more than 5,000 active faculty, student, staff, and administration supporters.
An expert on Rachel Carson and her life, Dr. Musil is the author of Rachel Carson and her Sisters: Extraordinary Women Who Have Shaped America's Environment(Rutgers). He also has forthcoming for Rutgers Press a new scholarly edition, with his introduction, updated marine science, and photographs, of Rachel Carson's first book, "Under the Sea Wind".
