We hold a contra dance with a band and caller at Ballroom Dance Charleston the first Friday of each month. Contra is easy to learn and lots of fun! If you can walk and count to 8, you can dance. No partner needed -- experienced dancers will help you out. Admission is $10. Doors open at 7:15 pm and the dance begins at 7:30 with a beginners walk-through and instruction. And great live music! The Honeymeads are Ellie Jos on fiddle, Matt Masie on drums, and John Holenko on mandolin playing originals and covers in the Americana genre. Gretchen Caldwell is a favorite Charlotte-based dance caller.

Charleston Folk welcomes everyone to a slice of Americana in the historic Lance Hall of Circular Congregational Church. Contra dance is easy to learn, great exercise, fun for all ages, and no partner needed. Tea & Whiskey (Andrae Raffield and Karin McQuade) play an upbeat collection of Celtic, Appalachian, jazz, klezmer and popular tunes – perfect for dancing! Chris Hernandez will teach beginners at 7:30 with dancing until 10:30.
