### Beginner to Mahjong?
Mahjong is a timeless tile-based game that has been played across Asia for over 300 years and is now gaining global popularity. Unlike poker, where you recognise the cards instantly, Mahjong requires learning the tiles and rules before you can play—and that’s where many beginners struggle.
We’ve often heard how friends and family don’t always have the patience to teach every detail, and after hours of trying, beginners still feel confused about the game.
That’s why Dear Asia Mahjong Workshop is here to help!### Why Learn With Us?
✔ We’re Professional Teachers – We understand how people learn best and have designed a step-by-step workshop that makes Mahjong easy and engaging.
✔ Mahjong is More Than a Game – It’s a vital part of Asian social culture, and Dear Asia London, as a language and culture school, is passionate about sharing these traditions with you.### From Zero to Hero
Many players ask, “Now that I’ve completed the Beginner workshop, what’s next?” Well congratulations—you’re no longer a beginner! Now, we can sit you at the adult table, so to speak.
In New Beginners Level 1, we focused on the basics—learning how to play and win—but didn’t get into the deeper aspects of scoring or strategy. That’s where Not-So-Beginners Level 2 comes in! We’ll guide you step by step, teaching you more advanced techniques to improve your strategy and gameplay.
For Intermediate Level 3, it’s all about practising to play naturally. You’ll master authentic Chinese terms, stay on top of a fast-paced rhythm, and learn how to architect the best hands to secure victory.

*This is NOT a free event, please book your ticket on our eventbrite page here*
This will Interest You:
The Dragon Boat Festival is one of China’s most cherished holidays, celebrated on the fifth day of the fifth lunar month. This ancient festival is steeped in history and culture, known for its exciting dragon boat races, where teams paddle colorful dragon-shaped boats to the rhythm of pounding drums. These races honor the spirit of unity and commemorate the legendary poet Qu Yuan, whose devotion and sacrifice have inspired generations.
Another tradition is wearing five-colored threads bracelet, symbolizing protection and blessings. These threads—red, yellow, blue, white, and green—represent the five elements (wood, fire, earth, metal, and water) in Chinese philosophy and are believed to ward off misfortune and bring good luck. Families often tie these threads on children’s wrists or ankles, imbuing them with wishes for health and harmony.
What to Expect:
- Learn the Tradition 📜: Discover the rich history and cultural significance behind the Dragon Boat Festival.
- Taste Traditional Food 🍽️: A chance to taste delicious zongzi (sticky rice dumplings) which is the festive food, Chinese snacks and drinks during the event.
