What we’re about
The California Native Plant Society is a statewide non-profit organization of amateurs and professionals. Our goals are to increase understanding of California’s native flora and to preserve this rich natural heritage for future generations. The Yerba Buena Chapter encompasses San Francisco and northern San Mateo Counties and is named for the tiny fragrant mint Satureja douglasii found in this area.
Chapter Activities are as diverse as our membership and range from conservation and habitat restoration to native plant gardening, hiking and photography.

- Field Trip to enjoy Francisco Park's native plantsFrancisco Park/Russian Hill Park, San Francisco , CA
Francisco Park, Russian Hill, San Francisco
Sunday, May 4, 10am-11:30am
Leader: Thomas Gage
Francisco Park, located on Russian Hill, above Aquatic Park, is one of our newer parks in San Francisco, and is characterized by a palette of California native plantings (one of the few parks to have done so). The plantings include 5 manzanita species, 4 ceanothus species, as well as keystone species such as coast live oak and holly leaf cherry. Among the over 40 native plant species are coyote brush, seaside daisy, toyon, and Grindelia. The plantings prove that native plants can provide 12 months of beautiful blooms while supporting our native pollinators and requiring much less maintenance than ornamentals that are often used in our local parks.
