See all- Door Jamb Mountain and Loder Peak (Lower Moderate Scramble) (Bring Microspikes)Jura Creek Trailhead, Bighorn No. 8, AB
Trail Name: Door Jamb Mountain and Loder Peak Trail (Click link to see the AllTrails Map)
Difficulty: Hard
Trailhead meet-up time: Saturday, April 26 at 8:00am
Location: Jura Creek Parking/Trailhead (Click link to see the Trailhead Location)NOTE: Attendance - I may add or remove any attendee at my own discretion. Your answer to the hike question will be taken into account.
NOTE: Keep Microspikes Handy - There are still patches of snow on the trail, especially on the ridge between Door Jamb Mountain and Loder Peak. Microspikes may be useful for icy patches.
NOTE: Difficulty - This is a hard hike. A good level of fitness is recommended given the steepness. There is scrambling throughout the ascent, including scrambling on slabs. The scrambling is not too difficult but you should have some familiarity with being hands on. The trail also follows the ridgeline, so there is exposure at certain points.
NOTE: Weather and Hike Day - All hike days are subject to being changed depending on the weather.
With higher temperatures this week, snow is finally starting to melt on the trails. Let's climb Door Jamb Mountain and experience some early season scrambling!
Weather: To be updated as we get closer to the hike day (usually the Wednesday before the hike day).
Trail Details
Distance: Approx. 6 km (Out-and-back)
Elevation gain: Approx. 761 meters
Time: Approx. 5 hours (including breaks)Trail Description: From the Jura Creek Trailhead, we will head to climbers right towards the forested slopes of Door Jamb Mountain. Past the lower trees, we will reach the ridgeline. We will continue following the crest of the ridge, with some some rock bands and slabs to scramble along the way. Once we reach the summit of Door Jamb Mountain, we will have a minor loss in elevation before ascending to the top of Loder Peak. We will take as many breaks as needed along the way, and return to the parking lot.

I have been looking at organizing this one for a while and weather forecast looks good for Saturday (will monitor avi). A good workout (much needed after a two week break!) with stunning 360 views along the ridge.
A good level of fitness is needed for this one given the elevation gain. It is not first come first serve, a waiting list will be created. If we have not hiked together before, I will make sure that you are a good fit for this trip before letting you in.
Anuj warned me that snow it still deep in Spray Lakes area, so please bring your snowshoes (mandatory). Also we will have to be very cautious about cornices on the ridge.
