What we’re about

Welcoming all cycling enthusiasts from all Boston Areas. Join us in creating one of the Best cycling groups in Boston. We organize a ton of Casual Rides for fun all over the Boston area.

See great neighborhoods, beautiful scenery and meet great people too! Rides range from slow rides 8-15 mph to fast rides 22 mph +. The purpose of this group is to bring people together, learn from experienced riders and enjoy Boston sunny days.

For people looking to meet other local cyclists for rides all around the Boston Area, explore new trails, share training tips, etc.

Please be advised that cycling is a dangerous sport and you are solely responsible for your own safety. Helmets are mandatory and other protective gear is strongly recommended. Safety is a cheap and effective insurance policy. So why not be safe & Have fun.

Adding this for those who may be interested/unaware. I won't be doing this one.

RECOMMENDED BIKE TYPE(s):
-Gravel Bike with at least 35mm tires
-CX Bike with at least 35mm tires
-Fully rigid, hardtail or full suspension (full suspension not recommended) Mountain Bike
-Fatbike
-Hybrid Bike with at least 35mm tires
-A road bike is doable, but it will be a rough/harsh/jarring ride, and you will have much higher chance of getting a flat on the ride. It will also be sketchy on rough downhill descents.

RIDE DISTANCE OPTIONS AND COSTS:
-Classic 40 Mile Loop: 9:00 AM, $90
-Long-55 Mile Loop: 8:30 AM, $95
-Hibernator 20 Mile Loop: 10:00 AM $90

Routes include food after the ride, SAG support during the ride, food/water stops during the ride and 2 drink tickets after the ride

EVENT INFO/DESCRIPTION (As copied from the ride/race/event description:

Come out of your winter hibernation for a fully-supported gravel grinder looping many of the amazing dirt roads Central Vermont has to offer! These early spring roads can be challenging, but the views and camaraderie are definitely worth it. For those who are just getting their bike legs under them, there is a shorter 20-mile loop that will still give you plenty of dirt, mud, fun, and cow sightings, in addition to the longer 40 and 55-mile options.

Cap off your amazing Saturday ride with delicious food and drink (included with entry) at the post-ride party back at Onion River Outdoors! To relive the fun from past rides, check out these amazing photos by John Lazenby.

For anyone wishing to attend only the BBQ after the ride, food/drink tickets are available for a pre-reg rate of $25 or $30 day-of.

REGISTRATION:
-Pre-reg (1/1 - 2/28): $90 for Classic and Hibernator, $95 for Long 55-mile ride
-Pre-reg (3/1 - 4/24): $100 for Classic and Hibernator, $105 for Long 55-mile ride
-Day of registration (if the event does not sell out before!): $110 for Classic and Hibernator, $115 for Long 55-mile ride

CANCELLATION POLICY: We get it, things come up. We want to make sure you have options. We allow cancellations through 3/7 for a refund. If you cancel after 3/7 through 4/4 you get ORO store credit or BikeReg credit.* Transfers are allowed through 4/18.
*if we have a waitlist and can fill your spot, we will give you a refund until 4/16.

From 4/24 - 4/26 we'll be in full event prep mode and very busy! We can't guarantee we will see or be able to accommodate any last minute requests.

Pre-reg packet pickup party runs from 4-7pm on Friday 4/25 and reopens at 7am until the start of each ride on Saturday at Onion River Outdoors.

PARKING options will be clarified as we approach the 2025 Muddy Onion and on-the-ground marking will designate a few key lots around Montpelier. Parking in metered spots in the core downtown will be strongly discouraged as a courtesy to our fellow businesses.

The Weekly Wednesday Fitness Ride will begin on Wednesday 3/12/25 and continue into October. We will keep the same route during each month but change from month to month. The start time will remain the same but the route distances (and elevation gain) will increase as the days get longer and begin decreasing as the days get shorter later in the season.
***By responding YES to this event you are acknowledging and agreeing the fact that this is considered a Drop Ride and you have the ability to self navigate the route in the event you get very far ahead or fall very far behind the group...... ***
NOTE 1: This IS considered A Drop Ride. Because of the time constraint riders are expected / required to have GPS guidance or the route Cue sheet printed out to follow. If you need a printed Cue Sheet please message me directly a day or 2 before the ride....Failing to have some form of navigation may result in removal from this event.
Helmets, Lights (front & rear) and Hi-Viz clothing are strongly suggested.
The weeks route map can be viewed here a few days before each event...

NOTE 2: The RSVP will close each week at 4:00 pm on the day of the ride. After 5:00 pm I will be enroute to the meeting place, I will not be able to respond to or manage the attendance list during this time. If someone is not at the start it will be assumed they are not coming.

Parking lot in front of trail head (Google Maps Plus Code), Lowell, MA
Approx 30-mile out and back round trip ride on this great intermediate-level trail, one of the nicest you'll find in all of New England.

This will be a moderately paced ride at 10-14 mph with several brief water/bathroom breaks along the way. We'll all regroup at these break points, so nobody will be left behind on this ride.

Towards the end of the 15 mile out, we can decide if we want to stop and have lunch someplace.

RECOMMENDED BIKE TYPE(s):
-Any bike can be used on this type of ride.

NOTE 1: In order to take advantage of as much daylight riding as possible (especially as we get closer to September/October), the posted ride time is the START/DEPARTURE TIME of the ride time, NOT the "show up at the meeting location" time. The ride will depart at the start time regardless of who is not there at that time.

You must arrive ahead of time to prepare and make any last minute adjustments to your bike as early as you think you need (the earlier the better) to be ready to leave at the start time.

NOTE 2: You MUST have a helmet, a working rear light attached to the back of your bike (either on your bike bag (see further on), your seat post, the rear of your bike frame or the rear of your helmet), and a bike bag containing:
-at least one spare tube in case you get a flat
-a patch repair kit or CO2 cartridge(s) and inflator (or have a small bike tire pump on your bike)
-tire removal tool(s)

You should know how to either repair a flat or replace the tube.

It also is highly recommended you have at least one front light in case it gets dark
