What we’re about
Boston Classical Meetup was created in August 2011 to provide a general classical meetup group for veterans and rookies alike. We attend all types of classical performances: symphonies, operas, chamber works, etc. in all kinds of venues - even house parties! (think Schubertiade...)
We will usually be meeting after performances, sometimes before, and occasionally during. Pre- and post-performance activities (lectures, receptions, parties, etc) are usually part of the meetup itself, so be sure to check the details!
Check out The Boston Musical Intelligencer calendar page and feel free to suggest a meetup. Please note that you would likely be responsible for coordinating the event.

Many of these are classical music concerts.
If anyone sees an event they'd like to host a BCM event for, please send a message to the Organizer. Please allow at least two weeks' lead time so members have the chance to get tickets and sign up.
Event Cancellation
Some groups cancel events at the last minute because there are too few signups. We will not do this. If an event is announced, it will be held. Unless there is inclement weather, a natural disaster or a serious transport strike, there will not be a cancellation.
If an event can only be held if a certain number of members sign up, this will be stated on the event page when the event is announced.
No-Flake, Zero No-show group
Group events often involve reservations at restaurants and hiring of venues. Organizers have to put in a lot of effort to set up the event. Members might change work schedules and travel far to meet other members. It is inconsiderate to the group and its members to sign up for in-person events and then send in a last-minute cancellation or do a no-show.
No-shows and flake outs undermine the relationship between organizers and members, and destroy the community spirit of meetups. The attendance record has a large role to play in deciding how we host future events, and in the extreme case, if we can even have events.
We should try to make our group a no-flake, zero no-show group. Let's make a commitment to respect each other, and support group events by showing up.

No-shows:
If you sign up for an event, please show up. If you have a schedule change and can't make it, please change your RSVP to "Not going". All no-shows in all meetups will be marked as such where possible, so the attendee lists can better reflect actual attendance.
Joining the meetup group
To be a member of this group you need to have a profile photo recognizable as you. This helps people recognize each other at meetups. This is required for all new members joining after December 2024. Please have a look at group event descriptions. Join if you feel that these are the types of events you would like to take part in.

Join us for a landmark evening of musical masterworks at the acoustically superb Grace Episcopal Church in Newton. Our program will include the World Premiere of William Grant Still's American Suite alongside three short works that showcase his unique melding of classical forms with jazz and blues idioms. The concert will also feature the Boston-area Premiere of Arthur Foote's virtuosic Cello Concerto with acclaimed soloist Julian Schwarz. Rounding out the program will be beloved works by Antonin Dvorak and Samuel Coleridge-Taylor, two composers who profoundly influenced Still's musical development.
The concert features an exceptional collaboration between the Boston Chamber Symphony and renowned cellist Julian Schwarz, who recently recorded Foote's Cello Concerto with the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra for its first commercial release on the Delos label. Conductor Avlana Eisenberg brings special insight to the Still compositions; her recently released CD of world premieres by William Grant Still on the Naxos label includes each of the works by Still featured in this upcoming concert.
A reception with the performers will follow the program.Boston Chamber Symphony | American Inspirations
