What we’re about
I wanted to start a more informal meetup group for people of all hiking experiences. I tried joining a few other meetups, but there's always strict rules of gear that are required, or paid hikes, attendance checking, etc. I used to belong to a hiking group in Boston before Meetups, where members would just post a hike that they're planning, and some info about the hike, its difficulty level, what's expected on the hike, etc. And others could join the hike responsibly, taking care of packing their gear appropriately, arrange carpools with other members and split the cost for gas, etc. I moved away from Boston for 12 years, and now I'm back and wanted to meet people for hikes again.
So, this group is for anyone who is interested in hiking in the New England area based in Boston... mostly I'll arrange hikes to NH and VT... but anyone who is a member can arrange a hike. Just PM or email me with the hike info and I will post. Members who are going to the hike should make arrangements for carpool, etc among themselves.
The only requirement is that you should be responsible hikers and respectful of other members. This does not mean that it's free for all; go without any gear or safety concerns. This means you should have common sense on what to pack and make sure you only attend hikes that are within your fitness level... and if you're not sure, reach out to the person arranging the hike to clarify, etc. Members who do not show respect to others will be dismissed from the group.
