Books with a Buzz

Hi Bee Members! This month we'll be reading "The Precipice" by Toby Ord. I was given this book by 8,000 Hours (an online ethos organization) and I figured this would be a good read as an ode to Earth Day and for us to get a better understanding where we stand as humanity steps further into the future. And what kind of life will be living in.

You're welcome to attend even if you haven't quite finished the book, as long as you don't mind spoilers being discussed. Attendees should generally expect to order something to eat or drink.

Humanity stands at a precipice.
Our species could survive for millions of generations — enough time to end disease, poverty, and injustice; to reach new heights of flourishing. But this vast future is at risk. With the advent of nuclear weapons, humanity entered a new age, gaining the power to destroy ourselves, without the wisdom to ensure we won’t. The Precipice explores the science behind the risks we face. Griz is a boy who lives with his parents and his dog on a remote island until one day someone steals his dog and Griz goes out in the world to hunt him down. Hi Bee Members! This month we'll be reading "Where Dragonwoofs Sleep and the Fading Creeps" by my great friend, Adam Massey. He is actually one of my colleagues that I had the pleasure to get to know in my Masters program. He's an accomplished writer and his books are critically acclaimed capturing the hearts and awards from various establishments. And I would love for you all to meet him in person.
