Skyline Path to Noordhoek Peak via Blackburn Ravine from East Fort, Hout Bay

Details

Join us for an exhilarating hike from East Fort near Hout Bay to the summit of Noordhoek Peak (764 masl). Good fitness is required to complete this 13 km circular trail, following easily-accessible paths. Starting at East Fort, the trail ascends Blackburn Ravine to reach the Skyline Path that leads to Noordhoek Peak. Noordhoek Peak is the ninth peak on Ryan Sandes's famous Thirteen Peaks challenge where contestants complete the 13 peaks in 48 hours or as many days as they like. The Skyline trail follows Noordhoek Ridge in a southern direction offering spectacular views of Silvermine Nature Reserve to the east and to the west you will be mesmerized with views of Hout Bay, The Sentinel (331m), Karbonkelberg (653m), Kapteinspiek (414m) and Suther Peak (615m).
An accumulated elevation of 820 meters is required to complete this circular trail that has a 3B grading.

Basic agenda:
The ruined buildings of East Fort that were built in 1796 are reached soon after we start our hike from the parking area. From here the Forresters Cottage ruin can also be seen that was built in the 1920's. We follow a rocky footpath that ascends gradually until Atlas Pool is reached.
A steep climb follows after Atlas Pool taking us to Alfies Path and further to the gorgeous Blackburn Ravine. A few twists and turns at Blackburn Ravine eventually bring us to Noordhoek Peak Bench. Unfortunately this bench was burned down a couple of years ago and has not been replaced. It's an excellent place to have a break before we ascend further to reach the Skyline Path. This path follows the topography of Noordhoek Ridge like a rollercoaster, going up and down and offering magnificent views until Noordhoek Peak is reached. Noordhoek Peak offers sweeping views of the surrounding mountain ranges, rolling hills, valleys and the sparkling ocean below. From Noordhoek Peak, we head down with yet another rocky footpath in the direction of Lower Chapman's Peak until we reach a crossing. From this crossing, we turn right and head back north to Atlas Pool. We follow the same route back to the cars after Atlas Pools.
