BLAST (Bi, Lesbian and Straight Together) Women of the Palm Beaches is a networking group for women, ladies, lesbians, bisexual gals, girlie-girls, butches, femmes, lesbian-feminist womyn, questioning, aces/aros, drag kings, non-binary theys, and gay-friendly straight feminists. Single, coupled, or poly, this group welcomes you. Our mission is to build the local women's community, share resources, and make it easy for members to set up events by, for, and about women in Palm Beach County. Note: Mostly Gen X and Baby Boomers, but we have members ranging from college age to Greatest Generation. All ages welcomed with open arms.

BLAST’s oldest member, Mary Vasiliades, passed away March 28 at age 94 after a long illness. We will give her a good sendoff!

SERVICES & BURIAL: St. Andrew’s (100 N. Palmway, Lake Worth) at 2pm on Saturday, April 26. She will be buried in the cemetery next to the church. Her longtime partner “Montana Deb” McNerney invites us to the service and to go out for the interment. A reception will follow for all to share memories we made with each other, and have light food and beverages. The church will supply sweet and unsweetened tea as well as ice water. You can bring your own drinks if you want something different.

ABOUT MARY: Fierce amazon and unstoppable feminist Mary Vasiliades was a novelist, playwright, reporter, editor, and speech writer. She was an active BLAST member until illness sidelined her. As a pioneer for women’s rights, she was a board member of New York NOW, and established the chapter’s first rape prevention committee. She was on the organizing committee for the August 26, 1970 Women’s Strike for Equality march on Fifth Ave., and worked on the 1970 takeover of the Statue of Liberty. In 1972, Mary joined the Majority Report collective as a writer. She belonged to New York Radical Feminists, formed Women’s Enterprises (mail-order catalog of women’s products), and helped with Shirley Chisholm’s campaign…. did way too much more to include here.
