What we’re about
WELCOME TO THE BLACK ROSE ACOUSTIC SOCIETY
Ask about acoustic music in the Colorado Springs area, and folks will undoubtedly mention The Black Rose Acoustic Society. Over 25 years ago, several local musicians formed our non-profit organization to actively foster traditional, roots music and to provide a supportive audience for acoustic musicians at all levels. Today, The Black Rose is the home of acoustic music in the Pikes Peak Region.
Twice each month, on second and fourth Fridays, we hold concerts at the Black Forest Community Center just north of Colorado Springs. On these evenings, fans gather to hear wonderful music and to experience the heart-warming ambiance of this intimate, great-sounding, log building.
We offer concerts, jams and a music school. Most events posted on Meetup are our acoustic jams.

BIBGJS jams are a great introduction to bluegrass-style jamming for all levels of pickers and singers. If you know the basic chords of G-C-D on your acoustic instrument and want to learn how to play music with others, this is the jam for you. This jam, stylistically, is bluegrass; if you have questions about what that implies, please feel free to ask!
All levels of players are welcome, but the jam is geared toward beginners and intermediate players. Our goal is to get you to lead songs and play basic solos, We use the BIBGJS songbook that can be downloaded from the Black Rose Website (see below) or the Parking Lot Pickers book (Amazon) or you can bring your own sheet music to pass around (25 copies) Our songs on 2-3 chord bluegrass or country-ish songs that should be easy to play and recognizable to most people.

- 4th Monday Hootenanny Jam4625 Ranch Dr, Colorado Springs, CO
Our 4th Monday Hootenanny jam is coming up Monday at Beth-El Mennonite Church at 4625 Ranch Dr. Note the time: 6:30PM to 8:30PM. Michael W. is our hootenanny leader. We'll be singing and playing from the Rise Up Singing and Rise Again books, and we'll have copies of the books to share. (If you are not familiar, a hootenanny is a folk music jam. Songs from the 60s but also many many other folk songs. Songs all have lyrics to sing or sing along with.)
Are you a member? We have a full set of sing-along CDs for many of the songs in the Rise Up Singing book. My plan is to let one member each Hootenanny jam borrow the CDs until the next Hootenanny jam.
Some details about Beth-El Mennonite Church (which we greatly appreciate hosting us):
- Beth-El Mennonite Church is on the east side of Union, and is best approached from Austin Bluffs Parkway, turn north on Union and then less than a mile to the church (on the east side of Union). Aerial view here, click the photo of Beth-El for a google map.
