- Outdoor Off-Camera Flash (OCF) PortraitsBrushy Creek Lake Park, Cedar Park, TX

Off-camera flash (OCF) is one of the hottest topics in outdoor portrait photography yet many people struggle to get good results. This workshop will get you well on your way to making beautiful portraits using OCF. Topics include:
- Location scouting with good light and surroundings
- Understanding focal length for portraits
- Light quality and direction
- Equipment considerations
- Blending flash with available light
- How to separate a subject from the background
- Posing and how to make it work outdoors
We will cover this material in-depth then shoot at several spots at the park. You'll have plenty of time to shoot and explore the combinations of light, location and pose. I'll bring a flash that works with Canon, Nikon, Sony, Olympus, Panasonic and Fuji in TTL as well as HSS. If you're not familiar with those terms, you'll learn all about them in this workshop. You'll definitely want to bring your camera because you will be shooting during this workshop. I will provide the flash - you do not need to bring your own flash. Once you get the hang of using OCF outdoors, you'll see it's not difficult and can make a dramatic difference in your images.
We'll be joined by a professional model so you will be able to practice what you learn.
Your enrollment includes photo release for promotional/portfolio use so you'll not only learn about outdoor photography but you'll also have the opportunity to add to your portfolio.
Plan on wearing comfortable walking shoes for this workshop. At times, we may walk on uneven, rocky surfaces.
Please check your camera's firmware to ensure it is up-to-date. We've had a few people have technical issues at past workshops due to out-of-date firmware. If you would like to attend this workshop and need help updating your firmware send me a private message.

- Using a Handheld Incident Light Meter for Better PhotographyPrecision Camera & Video, Austin, TX
DO NOT REGISTER HERE on Meetup!
Join me at Precision Camera / Anderson Lane to learn how to use a handheld incident light meter.
As you may know, your camera has a light meter in it and, while this light meter can do a remarkable job, many times this light meter can be fooled and your images don't turn out quite right. Maybe you've noticed working professionals using handheld light meters. These handheld light meters are different than the light meter in your camera because they measure the light falling on the subject (incident) instead of the light reaching your camera (reflected). The result is that the handheld light meter allows for more accurate, reliable and repeatable results compared with the camera's light meter.
In this class, you'll learn everything you need to know about using a handheld incident light meter to make better photos. Topics include:
• Understand how your camera sees light
• Understand how your camera can be tricked
• Functions and modes of the handheld light meter
• Using the handheld light meter for ambient (available light) exposure
• Understanding use of the handheld light meter to improve image contrast
• Using the handheld light meter for flash photography (OCF)
• Understanding use of the handheld light meter for blended ambient plus flash exposures (outdoor flash or indoor environmental portraits)
This class is oriented for for all levels. While bringing a light meter is not absolutely necessary, most people find that bringing a light meter is extremely helpful.
To learn more and register, visit https://www.precision-camera.com/how-to-use-your-meter/. Class cost is $59.
