See all- Te Muri Regional Park LoopNew World Victoria Park, Auckland
Greetings Everyone - Te Muri Regional Park is a peninsula formed between the Te Muri-O-Tarariki Stream to the north and the Puhoi River to the south. It it sandwiched between two parks you are more likely to have heard of, Mahurangi West and Wenderholm.
We are going to start in Mahurangi West, walk south and cross the estuary into Te Muri. Then we complete a big loop, which on All Trails is called the Te Muri Farm Track. Looking at the topography of the area I'm expecting some fantastic views over the estuaries, peninsulas and out to the sea. We should reach an elevation of 138m at our highest point.
Most of the track on this hike is going to be farm trails but will also include beach, gravel tracks and maybe a section through some forest.
On this hike we cross the Te Muri-O-Tarariki Stream twice. Low tide is around mid day. We will be looking for the lowest water level point to cross each time. I have managed to get across here before without getting my feet wet but that was probably good luck in the middle of a dry summer. You should come expecting to get your feet wet. We can stop to allow people to remove boots, cross and put them back on.
Assuming there is still time towards the end, after we cross the estuary again, we can head out to Cudlip Point before heading back to the cars.
On the way back to central Auckland we will stop in at the famous Puhoi Pub for some well deserved refreshments.
Duration: About 4 hours hike including stops.
Distance: Approx 10-12 km.
Difficulty: 2.5 on our 1-5 scale for day hikes.

- Summiting Mt KaitarakihiNew World Victoria Park, Auckland
Greetings Everyone - Today we are taking on an advanced tramping track in Coromandel.
We are going to hike up to the summit of Mt Kaitarakihi (852m). This is an 8km round trip that has us gaining roughly 450m of elevation to reach the summit. The track is challenging with lots of ups and downs, roots and rock climbing. There may be chains in place for the final ascent. I just watched a video from a couple of years ago that said the chains have been removed. That means it may be a tougher rock climb/scramble at the top.
Our reward on reaching the summit should be 360 degree vistas up and down the Coromandel ranges.
The DOC page on this track suggests that the round trip takes 6 hours. That is either an over estimate or the track really is extremely tough. I have to err on the side of caution so as a result I'm going put a difficulty rating of 4.0 for this hike. You need to be EXPERIENCED, fit and up for a challenge to join this one! If you are not sure, drop me a message illustrating your past hikes and I will let you know if you should join us.
There looks to be a very small amount of parking directly opposite the track start. Maybe just 2 or 3 cars. Looking at google street view and satellite view there is a much larger parking area 200m back down the road before the track start. This is going to be our meeting point. Drivers, I suggest you check out google satellite view to inform yourself of the layout. The parking area is on the right hand side of SH 25A, one bend back from the hike start. The telecommunications mast in the middle should help you identify it.
After the hike we drive into Thames to stop in at Grahamstown Bar and Diner for some well deserved refreshments.
Duration: About 5-6 hours hike including stops.
Distance: Approx 8 km.
Difficulty: 4.0 on our 1-5 scale for day hikes.

Auckland Global Trekkers - 12-3430-0791504-00 - Many Thanks● Important Notes:
### Expect a steep and rough track
You need good fitness for this track – it climbs almost 1 km in height over a 3.9 km track. This means it is very steep.
The track is rough, so wear comfortable hiking boots/shoes with good grip and ankle support.### It can be very cold near the summit, pack warm clothes
The summit of Te Aroha is nearly 1 km above sea level. It experiences alpine weather and can be far colder than temperatures in Te Aroha. Even if it’s warm in the town, pack plenty of warm layers and a waterproof raincoat.
### No water on track, carry lots
There are no water sources on the track and the long climb means walkers need lots of water. We recommend carrying 2-3 L of water per person.
