What we’re about
The Paddlers Committee of the Boston Chapter of the Appalachian Mountain Club (AMC) includes both whitewater and sea kayak activities. Our goal is to operate a safe and well-organized program of paddling within the New England area. We run a variety of activities including: clinics, introductory instructional trips, easy day trips, intermediate day trips, and overnight trips, led by volunteer members. If you are interested in a particular trip, contact the trip's leader or co-leader per the trip listing; he or she will have some questions about your paddling background and can advise you on the appropriateness of the trip for your level of experience and skill.

Introducing the Paddling committee for Boston chapter - whitewater, sea kayaking, and flatwater leaders, clinics, and trips. This webEx session will describe how to find our trips, how we rate trips, how to signup, and when / why we screen participants. We will describe gear (this sport requires gear) and the minimum needed for those starting out. We then mention trips and clinics on our calendar so far this season.
This meeting is designed for new and experienced paddlers who may be new to AMC trips and those interested in our paddling calendar for the season. Please register at the link below to receive the meeting link
https://forms.gle/trUZAGgKekEpGpNM7 - Westport River Paddle The TideWestport River, Westport, MA
AMC Boston Paddlers invites you to join us to explore Westport River for an early season shake-down paddle. We'll ride the tide in as we paddle up-river 3-5 miles (depending on group pace), rest and stop for lunch, and then paddle with tidal assist back to our starting point.
This trip is for Level 1 and 2 paddlers. However, drysuits or 3mm full-sleeve wetsuits + windproof top and bottom layers are required for safety as water temperatures are still low. You should have previous recent wet-exit and assisted rescue experience, be comfortable in small waves and chop, and capable of paddling a 6-10 mile day. You must have a sit-in kayak that is at least 14' in length, has bulkheads or flotation bags, and perimeter deck lines. A Coast Guard approved Type III PFD is required to be worn at all times while we are on the water.
Each trip applicant MUST (1) Complete the electronic waiver & registration form here on AMC's Activities Database; and (2) Complete this Google Docs survey (https://forms.gle/5QT4znUZXdRLtpMu6) in order to apply for this trip. Thank you for doing both (1) and (2). Completing both items (1) and (2) eliminates paperwork on trip day and is REQUIRED for all participants. If there are 2 or more people in your group, each person must complete a separate response.
The leader will review your responses and you will be notified by e-mail of your approval or non-approval for the trip. The leader will send an e-mail to all participants with detailed trip information including meeting time and location a minimum of 36 hours prior to the trip date/time. Please note that this is an all-day trip. Please note that a public pay for parking fee will likely be required at the launch site; participants should plan for this to be either cash or charge.
Please note that there is likely to be a Level 3 trip listed for the same day, so some folks may wish to wait for that event to be listed.
Please also note that the Meetup listing shows that "RSVPs are closed" only because the Leader will be managing the approved participants list separately from Meetup. Registration for this event will be open through 4 PM on Thursday May 9, and will include a wait list.
