See all- Onkaparinga Gorge - Hiking and Swimming AdventureOnkaparinga Carpark on Chapel Hill Road, City of Onkaparinga
Calling all adventurers in Adelaide! Whether you’re new to the city or have called it home for years, join us for an unforgettable day exploring the natural beauty of Onkaparinga River Gorge. This 5.5 km hike is perfect for those who love a mix of hiking, swimming, and a little off-trail excitement. With a bit of elevation, the trek offers just enough challenge to keep things interesting, but it’s nothing too strenuous.
We’ll start from the car park and descend into the gorge, where the real adventure begins. The trail takes us off the beaten path as we follow the river, weaving through stunning rock formations and tranquil waters. Expect to navigate through low vegetation, so keep an eye out for branches and prickly pear plants. Long trousers are recommended to avoid scratches, but you’ll be fine in shorts if you’re comfortable.
Midway through, we’ll pause for a refreshing swim in the gorge’s deep, lukewarm waters. A great way to cool off and soak in the serenity of the surroundings. There’s also a small, easy scramble along the way, adding a little bit of adrenaline to the journey.
Bring some food to enjoy at our swimming spot and don’t forget your swimming gear! This hike is a fantastic opportunity to connect with people from all over the world based in Adelaide, so come along if this sounds like your kind of vibe. After the hike, we’ll head to a nearby pub to wrap up the day with a well earned drink.Strava map to follow on the day.
